With the clock ticking down to December 9, 2024, SIX STEPS FORWARD unleashes another cut from their forthcoming EP The Grim Verse under Upstate Records.
The second single, βTrash,β is a chaotic mirror to the vulnerability of modern hardcore and metalcore. From its stripped-down production to its bruising lyrics, itβs a confession drenched in self-loathing and redemption.
Recorded at Heinrich House Studio, the track embodies a harsh, unfiltered sound, shaped and polished by the skilled hands of Alex Britt. His work on mix and mastering ensures every emotion hits with punishing clarity.
The accompanying music video, directed by Wojciech Mszyca, visually translates the songβs inner torment with haunting precision. Returning to collaborate with the band after his work on βBreak Loose,β Mszyca once again proves heβs a crucial part of the SIX STEPS FORWARD story.
The videoβs eerie atmosphere is heightened by the unsettling yet captivating performance of actress Magda WoleΕska, her every movement amplified by Gabriela Pyclikβs transformative makeup artistry.
βTrashβ dives headfirst into themes of self-destruction and fractured relationships, echoing sentiments many will find uncomfortably familiar.
The band taps into a universal pain, exploring the tension between self-awareness and the inability to change.
Having previously explored the shadows of isolation and collective unrest in Julyβs feature interview, the bandβs progression feels natural but not without a darker edge. The stark, claustrophobic vibe hinted at in The Grim Verse promises an emotional descent, each track pulling listeners deeper into the abyss.
For those who havenβt yet caught up, the story behind the upcoming EP is rooted in self-imposed isolationβten days in a secluded cabin, where the band channeled years of frustration, anger, and grief into this ambitious project. “Trash” is just the beginning, an open wound of a track that begs for more exploration when the full EP drops.
