Catalan alternative post hardcore outfit TREES WILL TELL have premiered their new song and video “About Crosses With No Name”, the first promotional single from their upcoming new album “NEGATIVE RESULTS” that is expected some time around mid-year through The Braves Records as well as other independent record labels like Pundonor Records, Quebranta Records, Violence In Veins, Gato Encerrado, Miss-En-Scene, etc. in a limited CD and 12” vinyl.
This first song, acompanied by a visual support made by The Braves Church, is a spoken-word oriented song that portraits the struggles of mental illness, and the way they seem to control your life and way you contect with other, and yourself.
“A significant issue in our generation, is the estigma behind mental struggles. They are a reality. We need to be able to spoke more about them. To recognize them as real issues and to have help more at hand. The way anxiety or depression are present in so many lives usually is in complete discretion until its too late. And public health systems do not provide the necessary support for this types of problems. Our society is build upon not talking about this things, because they make you look weak, specially in men. So we must break this barrier and acknowledge that this shadows are real and they can take your life in any moment. Specially in this moments we’re living, when the necessary confinement could bring a significant amount of stress, anxiety, depressive thoughts and impulses.”
Lyrics by Joey Rego:
I scratch my eyes, and I bite my nails,
I am every single moment you’ve ever felt afraid. I am providence in need. A god left on his knees. I am every sour outcome in a world in disbelief. Oh, I’ve tried so hard, but every moment I breath I feel the weight on my shoulders of a world that doesn’t owe me a thing. I build my shelters in smoking guns and then I bite my tail when I see that this world is not meant for me.With a cross in my back and it wasn’t me
But I can’t forgive what I can’t forget
And I cannot give what I cannot get
And my body hates what my mind expects …
As I leave you all living in regretI was close, but never really meant it
I was near, but lost me in the makingI’m over it; if it’s about loving you
I’m over it; if it’s about loving meI scratch my eyes, and I bite my nails,
I am every single moment you’ve ever felt afraid. I am providence in need. A god left on his knees. I am every sour outcome in a world in disbelief. Oh, I’ve tried so hard, but every moment I breath I feel the weight on my shoulders of a world that doesn’t owe me a thing. I build my shelters in smoking guns and then I bite my tail when I see that this world is not meant for me.I’m over it; if it’s about loving you
I’m over it; if it’s about loving me
More about the band:
Formed on late 2015, Trees Will Tell had inmerged themselves into a bursting combination between Post-Hardcore, Post-Rock and Alternative Metal with a significant presence of Spoken Word. Straight from Barcelona, Spain. Their first work was a three-song EP by the name “Violent Sounds For Weary Eyes” an early form of what eventually was going to be their sound. Uncontrolled screams and dense and melancholic melodies. Recorded at Bloq Studi, and self-relesead, that first EP allowed them to play shows around their city as well as a four city mini tour.
Two years later, the band released their first LP “L’Appel Du Vide” this time recorded at WheelSound Studios, the record embodied a more complex and mature sound. The 10-track album was released through The Braves Records. One of the most significant independent record lables in spain’s underground music. A more grown up vision of their earlier sound, “L’Appel Du Vide” got them on the road this time on an eight city tour booked by Hache Bookings, and by the time the record was out, on february, 2018, got well spread through national rock radios, magazines and websites, Labeling it “One of the revelations of the season” (Rockzone Magazine, March, 2018) getting and 80 out 100. or “an album that walks between an inmesurable intensity, beautiful ambient passages and elegant textures that introduces the listener into an energetic dream”.(ROCK ID Magazine, February, 2018) By the end of the year, the album got to the “Best National Rock Records Of 2018” lists by some of the best media outlets of the country like Radio 3, Rockzone, MondoSonoro, Radio Primavera Sound, MiradAlternativa, etc.
After a year playing shows around the country. The band gets the openning slot for the canadian band Sights And Sounds, and right after, they go into the studio to start working on a new full length.
“NEGATIVE RESULTS” is the outcome. Another 10-track long play, that puts toghether that last two years of the band growing and changing into a more dynamic and dark sound, with better control of melodies as well as a better presentation of screams and heavy parts. An album with more of an organic sound that let the band show better their emotions spread on songs that speak about gaining strentght through art and love to overcome mental illness, death, sustance abuse, etc, and eventually leading them to a better placer. NEGATIVE RESULTS its and ode to life but also to pain. To how negative experiences can actually become a positive thing. How, negative results teaches us how to avoid going on the same road twice. About the importance of failing, and being exposed to bad situations, to eventually learn something and grow from it as much as it hurts. The album was recorded and mixed in WheelSound Studios and mastered in Ultramarinos Costa Brava, and has a colaboration with Victor García-Tapia (Ànteros, ex-Toundra) it will be released not only through The Braves Records, but also throug a list of other important independet record labels like Pundonor, Violence In Veins, Quebranto Records, Miss-En-Scene, Gato Encerrado Records, etc. The first promotional single is “About Crosses With No Name” with a pre footage video made by The Braves Church.
