“Teeth & Nails” – Brighton emotive post hardcore band CHALK HANDS premiere new wonderful live session video, announce shows with PUNCH ON!

3 mins read

Without losing the sense of comfortable familiarity and the hearty, yet dynamic take of the genre, and the nostalgia that comes along with it, Brighton’s CHALK HANDS have signposted a new era for themselves as a band earlier this year with their excellent new album “Don’t Think About Death” on Dog Knights Productions. This live recording of ‘Teeth & Nails’ was done at The Ranch Production House in Southampton, where they recorded the full album, and today we’re stoked to give you its first airing, along with the band’s commentary and some great news about their January shows with Bristol screamo duo PUNCH ON!

“It was our first time coming back to the Ranch Production House in Southampton (UK) since we recorded our debut album ‘Don’t Think About Death’ in 2021.” – commentst the band. “We’d planned to record this live session video with Lewis Johns, who’s the sound engineer behind our album, but also a myriad of other great bands from the UK heavy scene such as Cassus, Blanket, Rolo Tomassi, Employed To Serve and many more. We loved the idea of recreating a filmed live rendition of some of our songs in the very place they came to life.”

“For some reason, performing for a filmed live recording is one of the most nerve wracking things you can do as a band, especially when it comes to playing a song such as Teeth & Nails.” – admits the band. “It’s probably one of the most technical tracks on the album (which explains our very serious and focussed faces on the video). We’re over the moon with the end result though, everyone smashed it! Especially Lewis, as well as assistant Lou who did a fantastic job with the sound and Cameron who’s the man behind the incredible looking video.”

Despite the whole experience being a stressful one, live session videos are one of the coolest things you can do as a band. It’s such a great document of you and your friends doing the thing that you love and it’s something you can always go back to over the years. Chalk Hands did it with with easy and passion.

CHALK HANDS session

Speaking about their plans for 2023, Chalk Hands blessed us with some amazing news about their new recordings and upcoming shows!

“Although our tour with Fall Of Messiah ended over 2 months ago, we still can’t get over how much fun this was. From a human and musical point of view, it’s been such a positive experience and probably the best thing we’ve ever done as a band. All in all it’s been such an incredible year for us. Despite the general feeling of bleakness with what’s happening in the UK, and generally in the world right now, what we did with Chalk Hands felt like a breath of fresh air.”

“We’ve taken a bit of a break from practicing after the tour but I’ve started writing the first songs of our second LP and plotting our next adventures. We’ve got a UK weekender planned in January with the excellent Punch On! and other things in the works which will be revealed in the new year. I can’t say much more just yet, but we’ll be back in Europe next year and we’ve also got something booked in Turkey (!) which we’re very excited about!”
