THE GLOOM IN THE CORNER have been weaving a long, intertwining and confusing narrative over the course of their past 4 releases. Today, they unravel the threads with the announcement of ‘Ultima Pluvia’! Ultima Pluvia is the collection of the past three singles into a single story arc – including the final single of the series – ‘Requiem’. The release date November 13 carries special meaning for the main character in the series Jay – it is his Birthday.
‘Ultima Pluvia’ is available now and includes the trinity of singles “Violence”, “Warfare” and now “Requiem”. It is for purchase and streaming HERE. ‘Ultima Pluvia’ Merch – CDs, shirts and posters are available now for pre-order at this location.
The Single and brilliantly animated video (created by Mike Lee-Graham) for ‘Requiem’ serves as a way of having fans relive snippets of the story to date, as a recap for people who know the story and newcomers, and also as an “in memoriam” for someone’s life. The video premiered this morning at KNOTFEST.COM.
Matt Stevens, guitarist for the band said that “I approached Mike Lee-Graham because of his amazing work designing animated illustrations for the Our Final Halloween comic. His dark and gritty style fit the tone of our universe perfectly.”
‘Requiem’ was unveiled to the world on Tuesday night on triple j’s The Racket with Lochlan Watt, with Mikey Arthur chatting with Lochlan and revealing the exciting twist ending to the story arc!
Mikey Arthur, vocalist and author of The Saga of The Glooms, says that the story for Ultima Pluvia covers how “…main protagonist Jay begins leaking information of the Sect, the secret government agency he works for, under the moniker and disguise of Echo Six, slowly deposing them of the power they have over the supernatural community, and allowing the religious and zealous cult known as The Holy Order to rise and assume control, led by Elias DeGraver.”
“Though the Sect are aware of Jay’s treachery to the organisation, they are unable to locate him, with the little resources they have left after the damage that has been done from the leaks. DeGraver takes it upon himself to search for the mysterious “Echo Six”. The last pieces of Sect information have been leaked, and DeGraver sets out to kill Jay/Echo Six. Jay knows that the Sect aren’t far off from discovering his whereabouts, and that suicide isn’t an option with Sherlock Bones (our co-protagonist), the demonic presence known as a Gloom that resides within him still inhibiting his mind.”
“The story ends with DeGraver shooting Jay with special bullets that stop his regenerative abilities, thus killing Jay and Sherlock Bones, and the final dismantling of the Sect, now that the last pieces of information have been leaked to the public. The Holy Order takes control of the supernatural community, now that their secrecy has been exposed to the mortal public.”
Where the story goes from here is known only to The Gloom In The Corner, but it heralds a whole new chapter and direction for the band, with endless twists and options available to them, heading into their new releases in 2021 and beyond.
The Ultima Pluvia trinity of singles “Violence”, “Warfare” and “Requiem” are all co-produced by The Gloom In The Corner and Jamie Marinos (who also engineered the track) and Mixed & Mastered by Jeff Dunne.
The past few years have been a meteoric rise for the band, where they performed at Bigsound 2019, at Unify Gathering 2020, won the triple j unearthed competition to play Download 2020 Melbourne (that was unfortunately cancelled), and then took out a spot on The Faction’s Hardest 100 of 2019 with their song Misanthropic. In their time as a band, The Gloom in The Corner have performed with The Plot In You, Chelsea Grin, Born of Osiris, Architects and Polaris.
The Gloom in The Corner‘s ‘Ulitma Pluvia’ single trinity is now revealed to the world on all digital stores and streaming platforms through Collision Course.
