For fans of atmospheric post-metal and post-hardcore blackened sludgy hardcore, the wait is over. Cvlt of Grace and Sirens Chant, two bands from Pécs with overlapping styles and a shared guitarist, have teamed up for an emotive and sonically dense split EP, titled “When You Love It Hurts The Most.”
Comprising just two tracks—one from each band—the EP serves as a highly focused testament to the creative spirit of both groups. We’re stoked to give you its first listen right here!
Albert, Cvlt of Grace‘s bassist, explains the genesis of the collaboration: “Since May 2023, we also share a guitarist, so the decision to work on something together felt incredibly organic. We all contributed our best to this EP, resulting in what might be one of our best-sounding records to date.”
Márk, Sirens Chant’s vocalist, echoes these sentiments: “Both bands being based in the same city, with comparable sonic identities, and occasionally even sharing the stage—it was only a matter of time before we came together for a project. The EP felt like the most natural way to unite our creative energies.”
Cvlt of Grace – Dull Edged Knives:
Albert delves into the emotional complexity of their track: “The song encapsulates the stress and chaos we’ve all faced since the onset of the pandemic. It doesn’t offer solutions; rather, it’s an emotional snapshot of the everyday madness and immense burdens we carry, focusing on the individual experience.”
Sirens Chant – Woe:
Márk elaborates on the struggles he faced while writing “Woe“:
“The lyrics were a challenge to finalize. The instrumental was written a while back, but it took a series of unfortunate personal events for me to express what I felt truly corresponded to the music. The song narrates a journey—from grappling with intense emotions to the initial steps towards healing.”
“When You Love It Hurts The Most” is a seminal split EP that brilliantly showcases the unique yet complementary styles of Cvlt of Grace and Sirens Chant. Both tracks delve deep into the personal struggles and emotional complexities that define our era, offering no easy answers but a poignant, shared experience.
