90 alt rockers SADURDAY comment on top inspirations for new driving single “Out Of Touch” (feat. Tucker Rule of THURSDAY)

3 mins read

Shortly after the recent release of their new single “Out Of Touch” (featuring collaborations with Mae Seaton (WREX) Tucker Rule (Thursday/ Frank Iero/Future Violents), Pittsburgh based indie/90’s alternative inspired collective SADURDAY join us for a special commentary on top inspirations behind the song, wrapped in a handy Spotify playlist below!

The song itself is a melting pot of styles and genres ranging from shoegaze to alternative rock. The collaboration of Mae Seaton, Tucker Rule, and Jon Markson on the track bring “Out Of Touch” to its full potential, a guaranteed favorite track for any fan of the indie, shoegaze and alternative genres.

The new single “Out of Touch” follows the independent release of Sadurday’s self-titled debut EP co-produced by Jim Ward (Sparta/At the Drive-in). The lyrics attempt to channel the final thoughts of a friend just moments before taking their life, a tragic real-life event that occurred during the writing and recording of the song.

Since Sadurday’s EP release, both the line-up and sound have changed: Mae Seaton, frontwoman of the UK band WREX, takes on lead vocals, Tucker Rule (Thursday/Frank Iero and the Future Violents) contributes his signature pocket style drumming, and producer Jon Markson (Drug Church, Can’t Swim, Soul Blind) sends it home with tasteful sonic tweaks and strategic re-amping.

“All the parts of “Out Of Touch” were recorded and mixed in remote locations — we never saw each other face to face.” – comments SADURDAY’s Nick Comanici. “The pandemic has created some unique situations, most are negative, but a few gems have emerged.”

If you’re a fan of the early 90’s punk/alternative scene and find yourself gravitating to newer bands like Gouge Away or Kills Birds you’ll probably dig what Sadurday’s putting down in “Out of Touch.”

Sadurday is an ongoing collective project led by guitarist/songwriter Nick Comanici.

During the lockdown of 2020, Comanici spent a significant amount of time learning how to get music out of his head and into GarageBand. He said: “The majority of the recordings took place at the same desk where I spend 40+ hours a week as a remote marketing director.

Writing and recording music was nothing more than in-house therapy until Comanici responded to an Instagram post from Jim Ward (Co-founder of At the Drive-in and Sparta), looking to produce a few independent artists remotely. Jim co-produced Sadurday‘s debut EP while final mixing and mastering were handled by Gabrial Gonzalez.

Since the release of the EP, both the line-up and sound have changed on the latest single “Out of Touch“: Mae Seaton, frontwoman of the UK band WREX, takes on lead vocals, Tucker Rule (Thursday/Frank Iero and the Future Violents) contributes his signature pocket style drumming, and producer Jon Markson (Drug Church, Can’t Swim, Soul Blind) sends it home with tasteful sonic tweaks and strategic re-amping.

We have teamed up with Nick Comanici to give you his commentary about top inspiration behind “Out Of Touch”, gathered in the Spotify playlist below.

The Gits – Guilt Within Your Head – Mia Zapata is the GOAT of vocals, she had more raw emotion in her performance than any other artist IMO. I remember hearing this song on a radio broadcast when I was 12-13 years old and I still listen to it every time I’m feeling overwhelmed. Also, the reason I prefer a female vocalist.

Thursday – Understanding In a Car Crash – I loved this band so much growing up! I would never have dreamt that I would get the chance to record with, Tucker Rule, the drummer but that actually happened on “Out of Touch”.

Title Fight – Chlorine – This song inspired the shoegaze tremolo bar thing on the verse guitar sections. Most people will disagree but “Hyperview” is my go-to Title Fight album.

Amy and the Sniffers – Guided by Angels – The rhythm section of this song Inspired me to have my friend Derek White (Mystic Seers) play the bass. My original take was stiff and generic—Derek gave it personality. Also, Amy provides more energy than the caffeine from 3 cups of coffee, a shot of espresso, and a Red Bull.

Drug Church – Head-Off – When I first heard this song I needed to know who produced it. After a bit of social creeping, I found Jon Markson and asked him to co-produce “Out of Touch”, he agreed, and the result is a polished but slamming mix.

WREX – Halfway – I heard this song and immediately knew I wanted Mae to sing on “Out of Touch”. Here vocals hook you right out of the gate.

Pretty Sick – Dumb – I’ve been on a 90’s alternative kick lately and this song reminds me of Hole’s “Live Through This” but in a good way not in an “I killed Kurt” way. Sabrina’s vocals have the perfect amount of sadness.

Kills Birds – Glisten – I heard Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth) mention “Kills Birds” in an interview and I had to check them out. I think they’re probably one of the best bands to emerge in the last few years. They remind me of one of my favorite 90’s bands called Salt.

Scowl – Bloodhound – It’s rad to see female-fronted hardcore bands finally getting the recognition they deserve in a male-dominated genre. Frankly, I’m tired of seeing 5 dudes with their arms crossed in every promo photo.
