Wow, listening to this amazing debut from Spanish powerful post pubnkish punk rock act RATA NEGRA was similar enough to the initial excitement after the first acquaintance with THE WILD ANIMALS’ last LP “Basements: Music To Fight Hypocrisy”. Slated for a January 25th release via La Vida Es Un Mus label, “Oído Absoluto” presents a fine balance between old and new, driving rock and rebellious punk, and feels pleasingly melodic, thoroughly enjoyable and immorally addictive. A great example of how punk can be artful and imaginative.
Rata Negra, a three-piece punk band from Madrid, have just shared their debut album Oído Absoluto, and it’s an absolute blast of buzzing, tuneful, and immediate hooks. Rata Negra, whose name means Black Rat, sing in Spanish, and they launch into their songs with an anxious sense of immediacy. This is clearly a low-budget recording, but there’s nothing sloppy about it. Instead, the band brings the melodies, playing fast and loose and fun music that recalls the California melodic punk of the early ’80s. / Stereogum
