Post black metallers [‘selvə] premiere new track “Estens”; tease Japanese tour & special release

October 3, 2019
2 mins read

One and a half year after the successful release of their epic record “D O M A” (featured HERE), epic blackened post metallers selvə are back with a new song, slated for October 4th release via Tokyo Jupiter Records, and we’re thrilled to give you its first listen below! In conjuction with the premiere, we’re also pleased to stream the band’s recent live performance at Trai Studio, Inzago, Milano!

“Estens” marks the band’s new monumental offering and comes as a part of a “Japanese Edition compilation” that includes two of their records “eléo” and “doma”. The release promotes the band’s upcoming Japanese tour (see the itinerary below) with Japanese post black metal band PALE next November. Dive into its vast and bleak soundscapes, and read the first hand commentary below!

“One year ago we started writing some new material that was supposed to be featured in a completely different release, some “secret” project we might still release in the future. Our first idea was to create a shorter and faster, heavy-like song to be played live soon along our usual stuff. Once we found out the whole Japan tour was going to be reality and we started talking about the compilation CD with Kimi at Tokyo Jupiter, we decided to make a new proper track based on the previous idea to enhance the new release. We are really happy and proud of the result.

Musically, to us it feels like a natural consequence of what we’ve been writing for D O M A with a more direct and straight-forward approach. In fact “estens” has almost no tempo shift through the whole track and was recorded live to a click track for the first time since our very first LP.

SELVA cover

The lyrics (which are never gonna be released) and mood for this song focus on the topic of loneliness through different shapes, the unbearable pain of never feeling a part of something, which makes us keeping distance from the ones we love and force us to question the nature of our feelings over and over. To symbolize this matter, the song is structured in two different parts, the first and more aggressive one which represents a state of anger and frustration, and the second one which is the change in perspective to the true face of sorrow, the core of loneliness itself.

SELVA Japanese tour 2019

The compilation CD features every track from both “eléo” and “D O M A” plus the before-mentioned “estens” and it’s gonna be released through Tokyo Jupiter Records in limited quantity to promote the upcoming tour. It’s something we’ve been wanting to do in a while and we’re really hyped to finally be able to make it happen.

We have no real plan for future releases yet, our lives have been keeping us so busy recently that we’re going on pretty slowly with gigs, we are mostly focusing on what we really want to achieve as a band. We can anticipate there are probably gonna be less shows in general but more short runs like this one in the future, reaching places we’ve never been before.”

Silen, live at Trai Studio, Inzago, Milano, July 13th, 2019:

Recorded and mixed by Fabio Intraina / Filmed and edited by Roberto Moroni.
