New Zealand metal / hardcore pack BRAINWAVE explode from the speakers with new heavy EP “The Decline”

1 min read

Produced by Supervillain Co (prod. ColdxWar, Severed Beliefs) and mastered by Arthur Rizk (prod. Ghostemane, Power Trip), the newest offering from Wellington based metallic hardcore band BRAINWAVE brings a wild, evilish, thrash infused metallic hardcore experience that bring back the scent of violence spun through our senses while listening to some of the deadliest tracks from the likes of INTEGRITY or DIE YOUNG. “The Decline” dropped earlier this month via their local label Elimination Records, and today we’re giving you its full stream with the label and the band’s commentary below.

Brainwave is a New Zealand based hardcore band consisting of Angus Crowe, Caleb Webb, Connor Shaw, Joram Adams, and Rob Thompson. The band’s sound can be described as raw and aggressive; calling to mind the neck-breaking speed of Iron Age and the abrasive assault of Judiciary. Lyrically, the band touches on social and political issues that are relevant not just in their community, but the world as a whole.

Comments Rob Thompson of Brainwave: “This EP was written and recorded over the course of the past twelve months. We decided to handle the majority of the production ourselves, with our guitarist Joram recording and mixing everything in Upper Hutt, NZ. From there, we reached out to Arthur to help with the mastering process.

Musically, we wanted to put something out that was fun and unique while being reminiscent of our favourite artists. We’re all huge fans of bands like  Iron AgeJudiciary & Mindforce, and I think that influence is clear in these songs.

Lyrically, I wanted to touch on my own personal observations of life in New Zealand.”
