We’re very sad to report that Gabe Serbian, longtime drummer for The Locust, has died. The news was shared via the band’s social media, stating that the musician had passed on April 30th.
“It’s with heavy hearts that we have to share the passing of Gabe Serbian on April 30th, 2022. This world will miss Gabe as a friend, family member, musician and artist,” wrote the band. “He will continue to live on in so many ways and through everyone he has connected with during his time with us. May 1st is his birthday, and we hope that you can find a way to celebrate his life. During this difficult time we ask that you give Gabe’s family privacy.”
A cause of death was not given.

Serbian joined The Locust in 1998, playing guitar on the band’s eponymous debut album that year. He switched to drums in 2001, a role he continued to play in the band up until his death.
Serbian had also performed as a member of Retox, Cattle Decapitation, Le Butcherettes, Head Wound City, Planet B, Holy Molar and Rats Eyes.

In other news, Three One G and Brain Dead have announced the exclusive, collaborative t-shirt in partnership with The Locust as a part of Brain Dead’s ongoing partnership in celebration of their 2005 EP Safety Second, Body Last.
Featuring art by the inimitable Tetsunori Tawaraya, whose hyper detailed illustrations have long been included within the Brain Dead ecosystem, this shirt marks the official reissue date as well as the release of our limited edition vinyl.
Following up their critically acclaimed album Safety Second, Body Last is unique in the sense that it takes the listener on a journey from beginning to end. As stated by the band, “The concept for SSBL has been explained as one 10-minute song split into two tracks, each of which is further dissected into separate movements.
The result is a timeless sci-fi onslaught described in reviews as an “elegant mind-fuck of organized noise” and “a fascinating contrast full of viciously dadaist musical fragments and surreal, perceptive lyrics.” This will mark the first ever reissue of the San Diego based band’s beloved EP.
