In an exciting announcement, Sumerian Comics revealed the upcoming release of a graphic novel titled “One Of Us Is The Killer,” which is inspired by the fifth studio album from the mathcore band THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN.
The graphic novel is a collaboration between the band and the creative team at Sumerian Comics, featuring writers Sam Romesburg and Ben Roberts, visionary artist Greg Di Angilla, and colorist Warnia Sahadewa.
The storyline centers around a series of assassinations by a politically motivated killer known as The Quill, which sparks a revolution in a technologically advanced American City. Vertical Integration Corp. has taken control of all means of production and capital, creating a financial synergy unlike any that has existed before. The lower-class hero, The Quill, emerges to fight against the ruling business class, who live in a city-sized factory while the employees are subjected to living in tenements.
The writers of “One Of Us Is The Killer” were inspired by the intention behind the album title and sought to create a story that focuses on a larger relationship between a government and its people. The graphic novel features cover art by series artist Greg Di Angilla and colors by series colorist Warnia Sahadewa. Fans of THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN will be able to catch references from the album in the story, which has been influenced by several themes from the songs themselves.
Limited 22-page preview copies of “One Of Us Is The Killer” will be available at WonderCon in Anaheim, California, where Weinman will be signing copies at 1 p.m. PST on March 26.
The band’s founder and sole constant member, Ben Weinman, expressed his excitement for the collaboration and the chance to see the graphic novel come to life. He is currently playing rhythm guitar with SUICIDAL TENDENCIES and the supergroup GIRAFFE TONGUE ORCHESTRA.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Weinman has also created a children’s 2D animated series called “Jupiter Rocks!”
The musical comedy is set for delivery in Q2 2025 and follows the life of a guitar-playing seven-year-old whose life is uprooted when her mom becomes Earth’s Planet Ambassador to Jupiter.
Weinman hopes to showcase diversity and inclusion in “Jupiter Rocks!” while creating programming that can be enjoyed and discussed by both children and their parents, creating an opportunity for connection that will last a lifetime.
