In the realm of music, striking a balance between potent live performances and meticulously constructed studio tracks is a pursuit that demands tenacity and passion. Enter JOHN, an enigmatic English duo known for their power-packed sound and inventive narratives, that have continually blurred the lines between raw on-stage vigour and nuanced studio intricacies.
Comprised of John Newton (drums, lead vocals) and Johnny Healey (guitar, backing vocals), this dynamic duo is back with their thrilling new single, ‘The Common Cold,’ from the highly anticipated album ‘A Life Diagrammatic‘ slated for release on September 22 via Brace Yourself and Pets Care Records.
Today, we are delighted to present the premiere of the music video for ‘The Common Cold,’ a track that not only punctuates the upcoming album but also encapsulates JOHN’s innovative approach to music.
This song scrutinises the limiting influence of traditions on our present and future, pushing the boundaries with its industrial, distorted drums, and wailing, siren-like guitars. A mesmerising blend of unease and intrigue invites you to plunge into the depths of the album’s concealed mysteries.
Recorded by Tom Hill at The Bookhouse in South London, mixed by Seth Manchester (METZ, Big Brave, Battles), and mastered by Frank Arkwright (Arab Strap, Squarepusher, Autechre), ‘A Life Diagrammatic’ represents JOHN‘s ambitious endeavour to merge their formidable live presence with the subtler, varied dynamics of their artistry.
As Newton puts it, “We wanted to further explore the space and ambience of our instrumentation, to offer an album that deliberately pushes and pulls in a multitude of directions throughout its duration.”
With its release on the horizon, we invite you to preorder the album at the following link here.
