In the intricate nexus of post-rock, a new auditory experiment has taken shape, spearheaded by the distinguished Michael Socrates, the creative genius behind the iconic If These Trees Could Talk. Introducing the full scope of Brave Arrows, Socrates’ latest side project which, after the success of the 2021 EP “When Will You Return”, is unveiling its first full-length album titled “Mourning Underground”.

This release is not just a mere collection of tracks but a poignant encapsulation of raw emotion, personal turmoil, and the cathartic process of musical creation. Having faced the profound grief of losing his father unexpectedly, Socrates has channeled this sorrow into an array of songs that are as much about personal healing as they are about sonic exploration.

Each track serves as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of music.

The metamorphosis of Brave Arrows into a live ensemble has further influenced the album’s recording dynamics, allowing the raw, live energy to seep into the very fabric of its compositions.

Socrates’ illustrious career began in 2006 when he co-founded If These Trees Could Talk, elevating it to become an iconic name in the post-rock genre. Over the years, amidst collaborations with major labels like Metal Blade Records, Socrates amassed a treasure trove of musical ideas that didn’t quite fit the mold of his primary band. This reservoir of creativity eventually crystallized into Brave Arrows.

Operating from Wadsworth, Ohio, Socrates’ approach to Brave Arrows is deeply holistic. He has overseen every facet of the project, from intricate songwriting, playing all instruments, to orchestrating the release strategies. Such a comprehensive engagement often fosters a profound connection with the musical pieces, rendering them almost as sonic extensions of the artist’s soul.
