Endless Dive, an instrumental duo now redefined by circumstance, has released “Deux Roues,” the first single from their forthcoming album Souvenances. With the departure of two founding members, Pierre Van Vlaenderen and Nathan Mondez have taken their music in a different direction, embracing production tools and computer-based composition over traditional band setups.
“Deux Roues” is a delicate blend of acoustic post-rock, ambient, and electronica, further enriched by field recordings that pull the listener into a personal narrative.
The accompanying video reinforces the theme of nostalgia, with imagery evoking childhood memories—specifically, the wobbly first moments of learning to ride a bike without training wheels, and the skinned knees that inevitably follow. This visual accompaniment amplifies the track’s reflective quality, grounding the soft, intricate guitar work in a familiar yet poignant space.
While earlier works leaned heavily on the post-rock foundations of EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY and THIS WILL DESTROY YOU, Deux Roues introduces the softer, experimental sensibilities of artists like BON IVER and SAYA GRAY. These new influences reflect more eclectic approach, one that fans of acts like THE BOOKS, TORTOISE, or BIBIO will surely appreciate.
This single is only a taste of what Souvenances, set for release in February 2025, will offer. The album represents Endless Dive’s reinvention, merging classical guitar with field recordings from VHS tapes of their childhood. It’s atmospheric and layered, but retains the emotional force and dynamism that long-time followers of the band will recognize.
Alongside the single’s release, Endless Dive highlighted three Belgian bands that have shaped their own artistic evolution, underscoring their connection to the local scene. Pierre selected a math-rock/post-rock band from Tournai that first introduced him to instrumental music. Nathan pointed to a band renowned for their visceral live performances and immersive soundscapes, as a defining force in his musical landscape. Lastly, the duo mentioned their third selection, praising the production finesse and subtlety in their work.
Let’s uncover them all here.
Pierre picks:
Perils of Penelope
It’s an old band from friends in our hometown Tournai from around 2010. They were like teenagers but they were so good and it was the first instrumental band I ever saw in my life, I actually didn’t know that kind of band existed and they introduced me to post-rock/math-rock music ! I think their album is still on Bandcamp.
Nathan picks :
Amenra
In terms of power, live quality, and the universe they can immerse us in. This band is incredible.
