Generacion Suicida unleashes their new LP, Hombre Nuevo – a ten-track journey that encapsulates the heart and soul of the LA backyard punk with a dark, dream-like post-punk sonic atmosphere.
Embracing a spanish-punk sound that honors their roots, the band harnesses their authentic visceral energy by pushing through conventional punk methodologies. By interlacing traditional punk rhythms with a “rock en espanol,” twangy dynamic, they extract an elegant chaos there exemplifies both raw intensity with melodic expression.
In true punk fashion, Generacion Suicida spawned out of the South Central Los Angeles backyard punk scene in 2010. Started in a hot, sweatbox garage as a side project by Tony Abarca (Guitar and vocals) and Kiwi Martinez (drums).
Since then, eventually joining forces with bass player Justin Smith the band continues to expand their DIY ethos by staying true to the culture and moving with intention. Acting as an inspirational vessel for Latin American Punk sound, they bring the barrio across the world (Japan, Europe, Central America, Southeast Asia, South America, and North America) and leave a piece of LA DIY punk in every city they play.
Hombre Nuevo is an introspective record that displays contempt, vulnerability, and complexities.
The music alone pulls you into their world, but once you dive in deep and connect, each nuance of sound and emotion carries purpose.

Unafraid to show their humanity, the band uses their platform to vehemently express their views on violence, racism, abuse of authority, etc, while addressing their own identity within each space. Navigating both personal and social conflicts are immediately felt in their self-titled opening track as Abarca’s utters in the first song, “Cargo Soledad” (I Carry Loneliness). With brevity, the profound words carry immense weight, set the tone, and begin the journey.

With melancholic overtones creating a sonic spirit, the band activates their dark, post-punk upbeat vibe to carry their moody introspection. Their ominous balance of gentle distortion mixed with chorus-reverb guitar tone becomes a character within their story. Hypnotic tracks like “Oscuridad,” bring out their accessible magic while “Desilucion,” has a more jolting, powerful strike. Both riffs shape their ethereal world around the sturdy foundation of Martinez’s sharp drumming and Smith’s steady bass.
Although the instrumentation creates a world, Abarca’s intimate lyrics and approach establishes an immediate connection. Unafraid to speak his mind, Abarca shares his vulnerability with powerful determination. Embracing his culture, his spanish-singing style and lyrics represent home and actively pulls the listener with his captivating chorus. Tracks like “Nunca Eschucharas,” display his sincere feelings loneliness as he chants:
“Pasó el tiempo en la pura soledad
Siento que no aguanto esta eternidad
Puro silencio es lo que espera
Pa que voy a gritar si nunca escucharas.”
Generación Suicida opens the doors to the future of backyard punk. Known for their motto, “Musica del barrio, parra el barrio” (“music from the neighborhood, for the neighborhood”), the band continues to pay tribute to their roots as they share their story with the world. By staying true to themselves, they have found a voice that resonates both within and beyond their city. Their high-energy performances reflect their passion, while their intimate songs reveal their honesty. Together, these elements embody the band’s commitment to keeping real.
Much like the title of their new record, Hombre Nuevo welcomes the new world by moving with a genuine sound and armed with street-smarts.
