Turin’s Selce have been opening their gigs with “Polvere” for a while now. The melodic hardcore/post-hardcore five-piece liked its sudden start so much that they eventually put it at the beginning of their debut album too, even though it was one of the last songs they wrote. Today we’re giving the track its first public listen, ahead of its official release on October 23.
It’s our first proper introduction to “In mezzo alle urla del mondo” (“In the middle of the world’s screams”), an eight-song, roughly 26-minute record arriving in January 2027. Selce sing entirely in Italian, drawing on American post-hardcore and the melodic side of Italian hardcore, and “Polvere” deals with something that can be difficult to put into words: accepting how little control we actually have over our lives.
Guitarist Giuseppe Tricoli, who started the band in 2023, explains the choice of opener.
“Polvere is the opening track of the album, although it was actually one of the last songs we wrote. We love opening our live shows with it because its sudden beginning immediately sets the energy we want to bring on stage, and it felt like the right way to introduce the record as well.”

The lyrics begin at the end of everything. The universe is gone, everything that existed has disappeared, and even the things people spent their lives fighting over have lost their meaning. Rules collapse, gods dissolve, and there are those “little wars” that suddenly seem rather pointless.
There’s a particularly grim image of a house whose peeling walls finally come crashing down after years of decay. Later, dust is all that remains between our fingers. The song ends with the narrator wanting to burn between the fingers of the universe.
Giuseppe’s explanation is fairly straightforward, despite the scale of those images.
“The lyrics are an attempt to step back from everyday unease and look at existence from a different perspective: we were dust, and we will return to dust, with life being only a brief moment in between. In that sense, the song is about acceptance, not so much resignation, but recognizing that some things are beyond our control.”

It’s an unusually wide perspective for a song that Selce also use to get a room moving at the beginning of a gig. The words put daily anxieties against the simple fact that everything ends eventually. Giuseppe’s distinction between acceptance and resignation is especially useful here. There are things nobody gets to change, however much time they spend worrying about them.
Across the rest of “In mezzo alle urla del mondo“, the band deal with loss, guilt, violence, regret and questions of identity, eventually reaching towards the possibility of breathing freely again. “Polvere” begins that sequence by looking at what happens when everything people take for granted starts disappearing.
Selce have a fairly recent history as a band, although their members had been playing around the Italian underground long before getting together. The original line-up formed in Turin during summer 2023, with Giuseppe on guitar, Michele Spanu on drums and Fabrizio Modena handling vocals. Bassist Eugenio Palombella and rhythm guitarist Ruggero Bellini joined in 2024.
Giuseppe had previously played in Carthago and was part of Mary Star from the very beginning, playing bass for around three years. Ruggero toured Europe with Locked In, and Michele is also active in La Parte Peggiore.
Those connections have already taken Selce onto bills with Asino at Turin Moving Parts, Sardinian hardcore band Regrowth and American post-hardcore band Junius. They’ve also played with Norse and appeared at Rebra Fest II.
When we first discussed covering their album, Giuseppe made a point of clarifying the band’s relationship with earlier Italian screamo, particularly Raein and La Quiete. Both have influenced Selce, but the band’s own history comes from a much wider group of musicians and records.
“Just one clarification on the Raein and La Quiete connection: theyโre definitely among our influences, but weโre not really part of that early scene. We have a lot of different musical references that shaped us, from Raein and La Quiete to many other bands weโve listened to over the years and friends weโve shared the scene with.”
That also explains why their choice to sing in Italian will be an interesting subject to return to when the album arrives. Selce belong to a more recent generation, with their own connections across Turin and the rest of the country. They’ve already expressed an interest in talking about the Italian bands they currently follow, including acts that deserve more attention outside Italy.
Their first release, the two-track “Non servirร a fermare il vento”, arrived in March 2025. Recorded at norecstudio in Biella and mixed at Turin’s Krokodil House by Dario “BlueJeans” Scognamiglio and Davide Giovara, it introduced the band before work began on the full-length.
For the album, Selce worked with Salvatore Aricรฒ in Turin between January and August 2026. Aricรฒ recorded and produced the record, and also handled the recording, mixing and mastering of “Polvere” at Deepest Sea Studio. Giuseppe created the single’s artwork, and the band’s new photographs were taken by Simone Cossu.
There’s plenty more to get into with Selce when “In mezzo alle urla del mondo” arrives, particularly their individual histories, the contemporary Turin scene and the other Italian bands they’ve been playing alongside. For now, we’re starting where the band themselves start their shows.
“Polvere” is available to hear below ahead of its official October 23 release on streaming platforms. It’s the first of two singles leading to “In mezzo alle urla del mondo” in January 2027. Follow Selce on Selce Instagram and Selce Bandcamp for the next release.
