ENERGY – “A Tribute To The MISFITS” (2014)
Dynamic Massachusetts rock group ENERGY pay homage to legendary punk band the MISFITS with their new covers EP, aptly titled A Tribute to the Misfits. The effort is now available for streaming and free download on ThisEnergy.com, while CDs can be purchased from Monster Party Records.
Since their inception in 2006, the members of Energy have never been afraid to wear their influences on their sleeves. Perhaps no act has inspired the band more than than the horror punk progenitors known as the Misfits. The tribute began as a perk to those who donated to the band’s successful crowdfunding campaign for their recent EP, New World of Fear, before blossoming into something bigger.
“I’ve always wanted to do a Misfits tribute record,” explains vocalist Jason Tankerley. “Glenn Danzig has been my absolute number one influence since I was in middle school. There are just so many songs of theirs that I want to cover. Maybe we’ll do our own Collection 2 some day!”
Having previously released material on Bridge Nine Records, Energy is now embracing their DIY ethics. In addition to being self-released, A Tribute to the Misfits was recorded in frontman Jason Tankerley’s house with producer/friend Robert Cheeseman. Longtime collaborator George Berce provided the fiendish artwork.
