A Butterfly’s Shadow – SUZAKU AVENUE premiere new video!

1 min read

IDIOTEQ-featured experimental post hardcore / metal Dubliners SUZAKU AVENUE have signed with Dark Soul Records who’ll be releasing their new album “Let’s Pretend” next month and we’ve teamed up with the band to give you their new music video for one of the songs on the album! Identified to potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy, the dizzying, disconcerting, and kind of cinematic video unveils an ambitious, progressive, epic new jam that transcends strict genres and offers ambition and creativity that foreruns a great new record from SUZAKU AVENUE. Listen for yourself and leave your thoughts in the comment below.

Here’s what the band had to say about both the track and the video:

Our new album Let’s Pretend is a lot more melodic and progressive-sounding than our last EP, but “A Butterfly’s Shadow” is probably the most direct and most metal-sounding of the songs on the album. When writing it I think I was listening to a lot of Converge and Gorgoroth, and you can kind of hear both in the guitar parts.

The lyrics of the song are about that moment when you become an adult, and you realise that your childhood is over and you’re only going to get older and more frail and infirm from now on, so we tried to reflect that theme in the music video.

SUZAKU AVENUE!

We directed the video ourselves and we were inspired by movies like Jacob’s Ladder, The Blair Witch Project and Saving Private Ryan in achieving the particular “look” of the video and the editing techniques we used.

The album is called Let’s Pretend and is coming out on Dark Soul Records in October, we’re really excited about getting the album released in a physical format and Dark Soul have been really great so far! In the meantime you can check out our previous EP Interiors on Spotify, Bandcamp and SoundCloud.
