All the comfort – an interview with screamo band IL MARE DI ROSS

3 mins read

After just one EP released in 2013 and one split record with APERTURE nd RITEN, it was kind of unknown whether or not it is a hint Sardinian screamo band IL MARE DI ROSS was going to call it a day. Their captivatingly strong 2016 comeback release “Nulla è per sempre neppure l’inverno” shows that sensual tension and melancholic tenderness can be inseparable from one another and it is really impressive how the band balances ‘gentle’ and ‘violent’. We haven’t dropped a word about this amazing release and we’re finally catching up! It is my pleasure to recall “Nulla è per sempre neppure l’inverno” and share you our short interview, revealing the band’s next release! Scroll down to find out.

IL MARE DI ROSS‘ latest album ‘Nulla è per sempre neppure l’inverno‘ was released in mid-2016 via a number of amazing DIY labels: Screamore, Tanato Records, Dingleberry records, Subnormal Factory, Insonnia Lunare Records, Youthcore DIY, Arkan Records, All Ways Wrong, Failures, Oh Dear Records, È un brutto posto dove vivere, Heartless DIY printings, and Adorno Records.

Hey there guys! How are you? How’s this summer been treating you? Can you believe that almost 2 years have passed since our last triple interview and over 3 since our initial IL MARE DI ROSS presentation on IDIOTEQ (HERE and HERE? Time flies, huh?

Hi Karol, here everything’s fine. Wow, sometimes I can’t really realize we are getting old! ahahah

‘Nulla è per sempre neppure l’inverno’ is a perfect follow up to your previous releases. It has added some heavenly quality to your craft without losing the thunderous tides of emotions. Tell us about the idea of this record, what it means to you and how are you proud of the final effect.

Ouh man, this is a difficult answer, I think everything started composing guitars when we were drunk or just joking, I remember that the very first draft of Il Grande Blu | Il Mio Mondo Sono Io derives from an incredible night where we pretended to play Mexican music, but it’s not all, we worked really hard on this record, it took a lot of time to be published and we are very proud of the product.

IL MARE DI ROSS!!!

How do you feel your inspirations has changed over the years? Both personally and as a band, how have you evolved?

Maybe now we listen to heavier stuff, we were stoked with SUIS LA LUNE and VIOLENT BREAKFAST, now those influences remain but amalgamated with less melodic skramz like JOSE PHINE or TRISTAN TZARA. Personally now I listen almost only emoviolence, dark hardcore, THE GET UP KIDS and MINERAL, before I liked almost everything, I don’t know what’s wrong with me ahahaha

Lyrics-wise, what are some of the themes you explored on ‘Nulla è per sempre neppure l’inverno’’?

Lyrics are always very personal, we talk of lost love, resignation, burdens and inability, we do it for ourselves but also to make the listener feel less alone in a reality that we can’t accept.

Considering different sources of inspirations and stories and messages expressed through lyrics, how much do you rely on facts and what you’ve learned, and how much do you rely on what you feel and imagine?

I don’t really know, I think things are in the same level, we talk about how we feel in relation to what happened, it’s a continuous brood.

Is there anything you want your listeners to take from this record?

All the comfort we didn’t receive when we needed it.

Finally, are there plans to put more new music sometime soon? Or will you again leave us eagery waiting another 3 years? :)

Very pleased to tell publicly that we are going to put out a split with THISISMENOTTHINKINGOFYOU in the next month.

Wow, amazing! Can’t wait to hear that! The band is neat! How about touring? Any plans to hit the road big time in 2017?

We are thinking to do something in Europe but nothing certain unfortunately, I’m sure that we’ll wait the summer to travel.

Ok, thanks so much for the update and lots of insights about the record. Is there anything you would like to add?

Thanks so much for the space, we love you as always. But also thanks to our friends, all the labels involved in this release and to everyone who listened this record. Thank you.

Thanks so much! Cheers from Warsaw and till the next time.
