Alt grungy shoegazers SLOW CRUSH share powerful new single “Cherry”

2 mins read

Slow Crush’s new single “Cherry” is out now via Pure Noise Records, marking the grunge/shoegaze group’s first release since signing with the US label.

The band calls it “wistful longing for something fresh and new, creating a stormy and effervescent anthology. Evoking an almost thematic cascade of noise that echoes the end and bursts into new life. ‘Cherry’ feels like the perfect first single. A new, fresh start. ‘Shed your skin.’”

Led by Cheshire-born and Belgium-raised singer and bassist Isa Holliday, with Jelle Harde and Frederik Meeuwis, Slow Crush has two previous albums—“Aurora” (2018) and “Hush” (2021)—under its belt.

Those records sold tens of thousands of physical copies. The group spent 2022 and 2023 touring across the globe.

A new album is scheduled for later this year.

“Many times we came close to losing our minds, ready to give up on this wild dream of a band.” – comments Slow Crush.

“Post recording we lived through some of the most intense but also most beautiful moments of our lives. It was as if all the lyrics were the narrative to our life beyond the album.”

“This album is intense. Every song is unique and heavy, be it in riffs or emotionally loaded, voicing our own existential feelings as well as the band’s.”

“When we started writing this record we weren’t happy with where it was going. We decided to bin the ideas we had up to that point and started all over again. The result: Songs with more purpose, intention & spontaneity.”

“We decided to incorporate tons of demo excerpts and noises into the final record, knowing some of their magic couldn’t be replicated. Snare rimshots & unplugged electric guitars we recorded in kitchens on iPhones. Looped digital synths through analog outboard gear and effects, sampled & pitch shifted them. Vocals over loud tracks covered with reverb where you can hear all the spill over. Recorded drums at double speed and slowed them down. Pitch shifted entire songs to create weird artifacts. Played chimes super washy with metal spoons, multitudes of drum parts layered making it impossible to play live.”

“It’s not an experimental record but it’s got so many layers making everything more interesting. The heaviest we’ve written until now and 100% our best. In our minds, at least.”

“Big thanks to Lewis Johns for bringing all this craziness together. Thank you for hanging in at the edge of madness with us! Sorry!”

“Many of us aspire the same things. We all work just as hard and, as with everything, it all boils down to a matter of luck; right place and right time – the right chances from the right people. With so many great bands out there, we’re grateful we’re a small part of your busy lives!”

“There is a duality in being a band, writing a record drives us mad but it keeps us sane at the same time. This middle ground is where we thrive.”
