BARONESS release new song “Chlorine & Wine”; announce new album

1 min read

“Purple” by BARONESS will mark the band’s first record since 2012’s Yellow & Green, the first featuring new members Nick Jost and Sebastian Thomson that have joined the band after their fatal bus accident in 2012. It was produced by Dave Fridmann (FLAMING LIPS, MGMT) and you can check out the first product of his work below! The new offering is called “Chlorine & Wine” and it’s very addictive! Listen for yourself.

The band’s frontman John Baizley commented:

After releasing a lengthy and investigative record like Yellow & Green we all felt that we needed to make something much more direct and immediate. We wanted to write with our normal focus on artistry, balanced against an increased level of energy and focus. It was important for us to write our new songs with the type of enthusiasm and expressiveness that could act as a counterpoint to the album’s dark themes. As a result, the music came out in an intense, heavy and sonically captivating in a new way, which was important, loathe, as we are to fall into any kind of complacency pitfall or formulaic songwriting routine. Purple is the most fully realized representation of our intention as a band; considering the amount of physical and mental energy spent writing it, we have accomplished something which would have seemed impossible to us a couple of years ago.
No word on tour dates yet.

Here’s more official word from the band:

Hello everyone,

We are set to return with our first new music in over three years. Purple, the fourth Baroness full-length album, will be released on Dec. 18 via our own recently formed label, Abraxan Hymns. This will be our first record with our new rhythm section, adding Nick Jost and Sebastian Thompson on bass/keys and drums.

Produced by Baroness and Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, MGMT, Tame Impala) at Tarbox Road Studios, in the secluded town of Cassadaga, New York, Purple features ten intense, heavy and sonically captivating songs that are, the most fully realized representation of our intention as a band. Considering the amount of physical and mental energy spent writing it, we are thrilled to have accomplished something which would have seemed impossible to us a couple of years ago.

By pre-ordering the album here on PledgeMusic, you’ll get exclusive access to all kinds of exclusive content. We’ll be sharing photos and videos from the writing process through to the final mixes.
