Screamo act DEMERSAL returns with “Intet Formår”, an anthem about disconnection, shared despair, and a quiet sense of solidarity

Danish band Demersal are releasing their new single Intet Formår this Friday, May 23, accompanied by a music video, premiering right here on IDIOTEQ.

It’s the second single from their upcoming EP Vi Kunne Ikke Blive Her For Evigt, Vel?, coming out on the Copenhagen-based label Konkylie. The band previously dropped Jeg ved ikke hvor det er about a month ago, marking the start of this next phase after last year’s self-titled full-length.

Intet Formår doesn’t repeat the past but builds on it—moving further away from genre conventions while still holding onto the emotional core. The song blends screamo and hardcore aggression with melodic passages and electronic textures. There’s a shift in the second half, where the track transforms into a sweeping, emo-influenced anthem—reminiscent of 2000s alternative but firmly rooted in Demersal’s own sound.

Lyrically, the track revolves around detachment—from others, from the world—but also acknowledges the shared nature of that feeling. “The experience of losing connection—both to other people and to the world—but also around the quiet comfort in knowing that many share the same sense of powerlessness,” the band writes in their press note. The lyrics are delivered as poetic fragments, intentionally written to stand on their own, yet elevated by the emotional dynamics of the music.

According to the band, Intet Formår is another step in their move away from traditional hardcore formats. “Demersal has already established themselves as one of Denmark’s most uncompromising hardcore acts, and with ‘Intet Formår’, they take yet another step away from the genre’s conventions.” There’s no attempt to force a cohesive genre label here—the track leans into contrasts, letting melody and chaos coexist, with pacing that feels deliberate, even when things collapse.

The new single and upcoming EP follow the band’s self-titled album, released in May last year.

That record expanded Demersal’s sonic identity with elements ranging from black metal to ambient post-rock and electronic flourishes. Lyrically, the album tackled topics like depression, capitalism, digital overload, and collective care, offering a bleak but emotionally detailed portrait of contemporary life.

With Intet Formår, Demersal continue in that vein—not recycling their past work, but reflecting the same clarity of emotion and refusal to stick to formulas.
