BLINK-182 to perform with their reunited line-up at Coachella 2023

3 mins read

In a last-minute surprise announcement, mainstream pop punk heores Blink-182 has confirmed their performance at this year’s Coachella Festival. The pop-punk trio will take to the stage this Friday, marking their first reunion show since 2014. The announcement was made by frontman Tom DeLonge, who took to Twitter to share an image of a teleprompter with lyrics from their hit 2000 track, ‘Family Reunion,’ captioned with “See you at Coachella on Friday 6:30 pm Sahara Tent” and tagged the band’s account.

Initially, Blink’s appearance was subtly announced by festival promoters on Wednesday when their name was featured on the festival schedule. Their set will take place in the Sahara tent between 6:45-7:35 pm (PDT). Other artists set to appear at the festival include Frank Ocean, Bad Bunny, Gorillaz, BLACKPINK, and Björk. The festival, which will take place at Indio’s Empire Polo Club, will feature six stages that will be live-streamed on YouTube.

The reconstituted band, which includes Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker, was expected to play comeback shows last month throughout South America and Mexico, but these dates were postponed following an injury sustained by Barker. During rehearsals for the scheduled shows, Barker dislocated and tore ligaments in his finger while playing the drums. He injured it again in another rehearsal two weeks later, which required surgery, forcing the shows to be rescheduled for 2024.

The band announced in October last year that they were getting back together, and released their comeback single ‘Edging.’ The upcoming album, their first since the 2019 LP ‘Nine,’ will also feature DeLonge for the first time since the 2012 EP ‘Dogs Eating Dogs’. Earlier this year, DeLonge teased the album on Instagram, calling it “the best we’ve ever made.”

Following their Coachella appearance, Blink-182’s North American tour is scheduled to begin in May, with dates alongside Turnstile. The band’s reunion tour marks their first outings as a trio since DeLonge departed the band in 2015. Despite the postponement of their South American and Mexican shows, the band’s unexpected appearance at Coachella has left fans excited to see what the trio has in store for their upcoming tour and album release.
