“Becoming” marks a pivotal return for DECOY—it’s the first new track in five years to feature their original singer, Jonah. In 2024, after launching the EP RE:SELECTION (three reworked songs with JONAH’s vocals), the band entered one of its busiest periods.
During those early months, the band channeled all that intensity into writing “Becoming,” crafted in one raw, “organic-jam it out style session” that perfectly encapsulated the sound they’re forging.
The song’s lyrics cut straight to the heart of inner turmoil. They dive into the midst of a breakdown—a moment when the weight of growing older hits hard: watching friends and family fade away, experiencing the relentless cycle of healthy and toxic routines, and facing the inevitable disintegration of the old self.
As drummer Lu Champton puts it, it’s “about breaking down the pieces of your old self and picking them back up.
Deciding which pieces you want to keep or discard.” This process of dismantling and rebuilding isn’t just personal—it resonates with anyone feeling lost when darkness descends.
Inspired by heavy-hitters like HATEBREED, CONVERGE, VEIN, and ALL SHALL PERISH, DECOY uses “Becoming” to set the tone for their future.
With plans to record their first LP later this year, expand touring to new territories, and release more singles and music videos, the band is all in.
Their goal remains clear: to make music for those who feel like they have nowhere to turn when life gets dark.
