Emanating from the sun-drenched yet abrasive landscapes of Southern California, Cold View have prepared a compelling triad of tracks designed to seize the eardrums of hardcore moshers. The band’s latest offering, entitled ‘Summer Demonstration 2023‘ serves as a testament to the group’s visceral take on hardcore. The EP features “Hardcore Pride“, “Suffocating” and previously released “Resolute“, shared through a music video below.
Cold View, an amalgamation of musicians from Frost Bite, Set Your Anchor, and Sharks Among Us, appears to thrive within the discord and unvarnished aesthetic intrinsic to hardcore music.
“Hardcore music is meant to be gritty and imperfect,” revealed bassist Gene Ramirez years ago, lending insight into the group’s creative ethos. The intent, it seems, is not to woo the masses with an overly refined sound, but rather to adhere to a raw, unpretentious approach that embodies the spirit of the genre.
The three-track demo kicks off with ‘Hardcore Pride’, an ostensible homage to the genre that has shaped them, followed by ‘Suffocating’, which features the fierce vocal talents of Ryan from Whirlwind. The final offering, ‘Resolute’, presents a steadfast conclusion to this brief yet potent exploration of their hardcore roots.
