Weird lengthy song names have been present in the metal and hardcore cannon ever since its birth to this day. Particularly, we have experienced a plethora of insanely named projects like I Wrote Haikus About Cannibalism in Your Yearbook, I Would Set Myself on Fire for You, The Birds Are Spies – They Report to the Trees, Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?, or Followed By 37 Seconds of Happiness, but actually it turns out they’re all incredibly short! With their new adventurous record, Greek instrumental noise rockers LIVING UNDER DRONES are taking the ‘long record and song names’ to another level. We caught up with them to explain this experiment and get some more details on their unique craft.
It’s also going to be released on vinyl by Sweetohm recordings in March
“Our Convulsing Stomachs Swallowed Our Exhausted Selves: This Is the Manifestation of an Almost Pathological State of Terror” LP by LIVING UNDER DRONES will be released on vinyl via Sweetohm Recordings in March. Though all their songs hover around the 10-minute mark, at their heart, LIVING UNDER DRONES are heavy sludge rockers. Its endless grooves and hypnotic, twisted soundscapes will surely satisfy fans of both noise rock, post hardcore, and alternative metal connoisseurs in equal measure.
The record features 4 tracks titled:
1. “Arms and Legs Grow Inside My Entrails Trying to Grasp my Eyes and Flip Them, Allowing Me to Have a Glimpse of My Vibrating Unconscious Flesh And Tremendously Acknowledge What We Really Are and What We Are Not”
2. “Our Necks Have Finally Grown, Our Fathers Are Ready to Consume Our Bloated Heads, Absorb Our Inflorescent Minds, Spit Our Thoughts Ιnto The Vicious Circle of Cause and Effect, Force Us to Replicate Ourselves Through Conformity, Plant the Seed and Wait Patienly Till The Necks of Our Sons Finally Grow, so We ‘ll be Ready To..”
3. “Instagram Junkies Engaging Facebook Freaks Melting Into A Digital Monstrosity, Until Their Eyes Get Rid of Their Lids, Their Faces Get Rid of Their Skin, Their Stomachs Get Rid of Their Worries, and At Last an Algorithmic Hush is All that’s Left”
4. “There is No Judge Without A Scaffold As There Is No Mouth Without Teeth / No Profit Without Exploitation, No Masters Without Whips / No State Without Bayonets, No Emancipation Without Violence”
What inspired you to lock all of your new compositions inside just a trio of lengthy named tracks?
Nothing in particular.. Various ideas unfold in each composition, but in spite of the diversity of motifs and patterns, in the end all of them are parts of a solid central theme.
What’s up with the looooong names?
It’s not a matter of impression, neither we are the first to come up with something like that. A title could be a three-letter word, but in this case the content had to be enclosed in this current form.
Can you expound more on the content behind the tracks?
Regarding the content of each track we believe that the titles themselves put down more than enough. Musically and soundwise we are influenced by the 90’s post hardcore scene along with a wide spectrum of noise acts and we think that such a mixture is imprinted on the album.
Will you be playing some live shows in 2018?
To support our first full lenght release, we are planning to set up some shows in squats, self-organized structures and DIY venues in Greece and anything as close as that abroad.
