Toronto’s hardcore speed freaks THE SLIME have just dropped ‘Coming Soon to an Alley Near You‘. It follows ‘Bitter Dream’, which they kicked off this unfortunate year with back in January.
The release will not disappoint fans of fast thrash metal and aggressive hardcore punk, but its varied approach to melodies should catch the attention of fans of other heavier genres as well.
Talk is cheap and attention spans are short, so without further ado… here is the release and a few words from the band about each track below.
Coming Soon to an Alley Near You – Pretty much a straight-forward rocker – a bit of an outlier compared to the rest, but we tend to just go with the flow when we jam.
When we started playing around with these riffs, the lyrics came out in that style as well – very street punk oriented… little snippets of different memories of being thrown out of bars, drinking in alleys, and getting in fights… stuff I think most of us relate too.
Flesh and Blood – This is a newer track that references a line from a Dracula movie but also has some other references to horror movies and imagery. These images and pieces of dialogue meld with other real life issues and paranoias.
Life of Agony – This is a good example of a song that started with just an ad-lib chorus, and had some lyrics written inspired by common horror tropes, but at the same time now it is about the real-life regrets and failures we all live with. This is also another example of just sticking with what was only meant to be a humorous working title.
Look and See – This is an older track repurposed for this release. It’s about paranoia – when you are so messed up you see things that aren’t really there. Sometimes that comes back to haunt you and even in your sober life you start to have those thoughts…
The Day the Earth Stood Still – Just check out our single :)
Circling – When we first started messing with these riffs, we kept thinking it sounded tribal, sort of like Sepultura and called it ‘the Sepultura song’. Eventually the lyrics started to congeal and as a tribute we included some Portuguese in there for fun.
Acid Leak – This is the oldest one of all the tracks on the EP. We’ve been playing it for years with a few different lineups… Straight up, in your face hardcore – no gimmicks. Check it out!
