With two weeks to go before the release of their debut album, The Horrible and The Miserable, the mathcore / chaotic hardcore duo DEATH GOALS unveil the title track with a live session from The Bookhouse ahead of its digital release on May 28th. Acting as a mantra for the band through the LP writing process, The Horrible and The Miserable channels every negative feeling the duo had experienced through the UK lockdown into creating the most horrible and miserable music they could.
Guitarist and songwriter, Harry Bailey stated “This track very much embodies everything that we wanted the album to be, intense and abrasive.”
Bailey continued by discussing the live session, “It was superb to reunite with Tom Hill at Bookhouse Studios for this live session, having not seen him since we finished recording the album with him back in August. It was also great to actually perform the song together as we would live, which is a far more chaotic affair than it is whilst recording.”
“Insurgent U.K. chaotic hardcore duo aimed to destroy all” – Revolver Magazine
“[Death Goals] are a chaotic blend of screamo, metalcore, mathcore, post-hardcore, and more, and the sonic assault of the music is matched by the very tangible desperation in their lyrics.” – Brooklyn Vegan
Recorded in the summer of 2020 with producer Tom Hill (Modern Rituals, Employed To Serve, The Yacht Club), the announcement of The Horrible and The Miserable sees the beginning of a new season for Death Goals, with a lot more on the horizon.
Death Goals are a two-piece chaotic hardcore band from Hertfordshire, UK. Formed by guitarist/vocalist Harry Bailey in March 2017, the band released an EP, split and four-single collection before the joining of drums/vocals George Milner (formerly of Pet Library/Petlib.) in September 2019, when the duo started writing their debut LP; The Horrible and The Miserable.
Not afraid of going against the grain, the LP mixes abrasive, noisey hardcore with experimentations into sounds spanning from post-punk through to pop. The band finished writing the record in June 2020 and recorded it in August 2020 with Tom Hill at The Bookhouse Studio, London.
In all aspects, The Horrible and The Miserable is a self-reflective melancholy tale of adolescence; heartbreak, loss of friendships and both the internal and societal impacts of mental health are just some of the aspects woven into the record.
Visually and aesthetically the LP has been styled by Bailey & Milner alongside photographer Gabriel Wilson giving every aspect of the record and it’s campaign a consistency from start to finish.
