Epic crust screamo virtuosos TENUE discuss their political record “Anábasis”

12 mins read

Galician emotive crust screamo band TENUE have recently released their first proper record “Anábasis”, and it turned the massive sound all different colors. The record invites for a breathtaking adventure that overloads the listener with an emotional, forceful experience that stimulates the senses and leaves a powerful impression.

We have teamed up with the band to better understand their ability to pair fierce attacks of blisterning sounds with moments of delicacy, and expose their mastery of blurring the lines between extreme and climactic through a track by track roundup.

«I consider that the most sacred of all my duties was to rebel against all oppression, regardless of the author or the victim» – M. Bakunin.

Recorded at Kollapse Studio by Ivan Ferro, and spiced up by the amazing artwork by Victoria Fernández-Oruña, “Anábasis” is available through Dingleberry RecordsOjalä Me Muera RecordsTheia RecordsCGTH RecordsMuerte A TipoZilpZalp RecordsTirano IntergalácticoMërda DistroLa SOJAEl Fary Es DiosSeitan Hell Bïke Punx, and La Fosa Nostra.

Tenue is a band formed by three folks from a small town of Galiza (is not Spain). We like to listen to fast music and to read political fanzines. Anábasis is our new LP. It consists of seven tracks that reflect what we feel when we see what surrounds us. Anábasis means «expedition to the interior». We are just beginning to walk through our deserts. These tracks talks about how we would like something beautiful to be born from these deserts.

Narrenturm

Narrenturm ’s lyrics based in a book called «Uníos Hermanxs Psiquiatrizadxs», edited by Biblioteca Social Hermanos Quero of Granada. Some phrases have been extracted of those pages that make visible cases of people with any kind of «mental disease». Narrenturm means «Mad’s Tower» and was the first psychiatric building in Europe, specifically in Vienna. The normality concept, like historical construct of power, is something that we can’t understand or endure. Normality doesn’t exist and everything can be pathologizable in this world. For example, homosexuality was described like a mental disease in the DSM a few years ago. We are the result of the biggest assembly line. All in our brains doesn’t exist apart of domination.

Lyrics:

|GA| Patoloxizaron a diferencia para establecernos en pequenos redutos, imposibilitándonos volver a unir os nosos anacos. A realidade atravesa a nosa pel, abrindo gretas no inconsciente. Os nosos escudos oxidan: os cortes desangran a psique. Fomos encerradas, humilladas e drogadas. Agredidas e encadeadas. Golpeadas e asasinadas tras os muros. Silenciadas e apartadas. ¿Que faremos co que fixeron de nós? NON QUEREMOS MÁIS PROMESAS DUN MUNDO MELLOR: SÓ INCENDIAR O PRESENTE.

|ENG| They pathologized the diferences to settle us in small redoubts,
making it impossible to rejoin our pieces. Reality goes through our skin, opening cracks in the unconscious. Our shields rust: cuts bleed the psyche. We, unable to deal with panorama in front of us – incapable of accepting our own fragility- we’ll turn our inside into a minefield. We accumulate absences, losses, dead. We are the inheritance of a thousand swords stabbed in our brother’s chest. Born under the yoke of the most violent culture, we were forced to feed monster entrails.
Overshadowed under the unquestionable shadow of normality, we deny our potential. We were confined, silenced and isolated. Assaulted and chained. Beaten and killed behind walls. Silenced and separated. What will we do with what they made of us? No more promises of a better world. Just burn the present.

Mythos:

Mythos talks about the impossibility to construct a strong movement, a new world, without the destruction of power relationships that ourselves build every day. We can’t trust in a revolution that saves us. Nevertheless, the fight should be constant against all the power structures. From the inside out, and in any directions.

Lyrics:

A maior violencia exercémola nós.

|ENG| What would be the point of destroying the State if the State is us? If every hit against the wall does not even scratch our surface. Daughters of our parents’ misery, we are used to set up our relationships with blows. The need to be better than everyone else makes us lose value at every gesture. We practice the greatest violence. The greatest violence is against us. Nothing will never change ’till we bring down the myths that shape our psyche, until we get rid of this stalled morality. Until we kill the first enemy. Only then we could smile while the State collapses.

Cisma:

Cisma talks about our pain, our internal wars, every split-off that forms inside our heads. The doubts, the loneliness, the fear and the inertia. The feeling of having no value and the voices that judges around you. To trample or be trampled is the manthra that moves the world. We want break out this manthra.

Lyrics:

O potencial revolucionario do afecto desvanécese. A razón apuñala; a soidade devora. As nosas guerras tamén provocan cismas.

|ENG| SCHISM | Obsessed with a sense of belonging, our existence oscillates between automatism and inaction. Humankind reduced to springs, relationships turned into merchandise. Revolutionary potential of affection vanishes. Transactions, pain, pills. That’s how our hearts cracked. Reason stabs us; loneliness consumes us. Our wars cause
schisms. Productive utility fascism shapes tragedy conditions. Who decides what you’re worth? Who orders your feelings? A thousand crows will blind the great architect’s eyes. There will be no judges, there will be no temples. All world’s barricades will burn at the same time.

Vertixe

Vertixe talks about friendship and the affects. Even in a context that make us breakdown and to suffer, exist people that help us to continue with our lives, that are with us when we need something and don’t leave us alone. Appreciate the people that stand with us giving their love every day and give it back and, definitely, take care to each other, is one of the most politic things that we can do in our live.

Lyrics:

|ENG| I appreciate every second of this fall because we are together — living on the verge of collapse, we reverse limits, running in darkness with matches in our hands — and although I feel dreadful tickling in the legs that make me tremble at every footstep, I won’t step back. Because we still smile despite the vertigo and perhaps… taking care of each other will be the most political thing we can do. I will be less afraid if we hold hands but I’ll be fine if our paths separate. I promise.

Carne:

Carne talks about our confusion. The cultural and technological access provides us knowledge, but not action capacity. Domination is more subtle every time, while we sink in a theorical spiral that confuses us much more. Academy shows itself like the most powerful way to liberate humanity, but it’s only reforming the cultural tendencies of capitalism. What is the sense of still producing a deedless theory? We must just catch the world with our hands and shake it.

Lyrics:

Facela carne. Facela sangue. Afecto, alimento e refuxio. Nada máis fará falta. Nada nos faltará máis. Para todxs, todo.

|ENG| FLESH | How to narrow down the limits of our abstraction? Turn it to flesh. Make it blood. De-construct the lines that define the power subjectivity: to finish control off. We lose ourselves in the chrysalis of words: a thousand theories support emptiness’ pillars and the walls keep intact. Affection, food and refuge. We won’t need anything else. We will lack nothing evermore. Everything for everyone.

Afecto, alimento y refugio. Nada más hará falta. Nada nos faltará más. Para todxs, todo.

Silencio:

Silencio (Silence) tries to transmit the despair of thinking the oppression in a holistic way. Are we really aware about the violence that we profess to the others? Our society is sustained in violence. Our existence is violent. If you don’t submit to the state, you’ll dead. If you don’t work for employers and corporations, you’ll die. If you don’t be a middle-class white heterosexual man, your chances of dying increase gradually. If you are a non-human animal, you’ll die for sure. Who can bear that this is our legacy?

|GA| Os decorados derrúbanse, patético espectáculo. A opacidade do velo racha polos cortes do puñal, pero ninguén mira, pois os ollos inundaríanse ante a barbarie. A ansiedade sería insoportable.

|ENG| SILENCE. Sets fall down, pathetic spectacle. Veil’s opacity rips at dagger cuts, but nobody looks, because eyes would flood facing the brutality. We filter the information we got access, unable to accept the violence level that we create. We live because of somebody else’s death, somebody else’s blood, somebody else’s effort. We would despair just to think about it for thirty seconds. Nothing can explain this world and its entelechy. If we just remain silence for thirty seconds we’ll hear the deafening screams from every voided nation because of State’s terror; from every torn body by the atrocities of patriarchy; from each brain consumed by suffocating life of wage labor; from every caged animal to satisfy human hedonism. Just thirty seconds in silence: hearing with hand on heart. Anxiety would be unbearable.

Am-Ar:

Am-Ar talks about the asaliary work. When we think in the work, it doesn’t seem to us something negative by itself. However, the hierarchy and the monetation of work, yes it is. We want to work just for our families and friends, not to others. We want to work without obey, without bosses, without blackmails. We want to work with time to be and care of yours. We want to work because we want to see a better world around us. But this is not the way. We need a new ethic about work. We are more than our job.

Lyrics:

Compre abolila, compre abolila. Destruír o que nos destrúe. Por fin a cada relación de poder. Arrincar de nós as garras do monstro. Fuxir do espellismo espectacular para afundir á besta no averno. Valemos máis do que producimos.

|ENG| Acknowledging work as a destroyer of individuals and their will makes our days become a war. Alienation gets turned into pride. Servitude only produces misery. What kind of pride is “class pride”? It is necessary to abolish it. To destroy what destroys us. Putting power relations to an end, pulling the monster’s claws out of us. Fleeing from the spectacular mirage to sink the beast in Hell. We are more valuable than what we produce.
