EXCLUSIVE: UNINVITED interview

3 mins read

We conducted an interview with Croatian metal band UNINVITED on December 30, 2011.

Uninvited

Thank you for taking this interview. Please, introduce yourself. Tell us a few words about your band.

Antoni:

Hey man, first of all thank You for this interview! My name is Antoni, I’m 21 years old and I’m one of the guitarists in the band.

Marino:

Sup, my name is Marino, I’m 20 years old and I sing.

We are UNINVITED, a melodic death metal band from Varaždin, Croatia. We have just released our first EP entitled “When Thoughts Collide” which contains six brutal songs.

You are hailing from Varaždin, Croatia. Please describe your local music scene. How’s the Croatian metal scene looking?

Marino:

Croatian scene in general is in my opinion really good. There are a lot of ass-kicking bands, but it is almost impossible for them to make it big.

Antoni:

Uhm, and our local music scene is pretty good too. Everyone says that “the guys from Varaždin know how to do the work.” But it’s sad that Varaždin doesn’t have an official club/place to play shows in. It’s hard to get a concert here. Actually it’s hard to get a gig in the whole Croatia too these days. [laughs]

What are your favorite and least favorite aspects of living in Croatia?

Marino:

My least favourite aspect of living in Croatia is high rate of unemployment. It’s getting harder and harder to get a job even if you have a college degree. On top of that, Croatian government is a bunch of lying, corrupted and useless morons.
But anyway, I love my country and my hometown. I think that Croatia is a beautiful country with a lot of potential to grow. We’ll see what the future will bring for us.

Antoni:

I agree with everything Marino said above. Although I’m not sure if I’ll stay here for the rest of my life, it’s pretty hard.

You have just finished you debut EP entitled “When Thoughts Collide”. Can you tell us more about it?

Marino:

We recorded it by ourselves. To be more exact, our bassist produced it entirely. It took a while for us to record it because we had some problems on the way, but fortunately everything turned out well in the end.

Antoni:

The EP contains six songs, and we are pretty happy with it. We hope that our fans will like it too.

You will be appearing at the first Croatian Metal Festival called “Zadar Metalfest 2011“ and sharing the stage with bands such as KREATOR, BEHEMOTH, BLIND GUARDIAN, DARK TRANQUILITY, VADER, DEATH ANGEL and more great bands. How did that happen?

Antoni:

There was an official voting contest on Facebook where about 200 bands took part, not just from Croatia, but the whole region. To win the contest you had to get the most votes. We got the most votes, so we won the contest.

How many shows have you been playing so far?

Marino:

So far we played 7 gigs with Uninvited, but all of us have a lot of live experience with previous bands. We try to play live as much as possible, especially now when we have our first release to promote.

What dynamics does each member bring to the band?

All five of us are pretty different, but we work together as a group. Every band member contributes to our music in it’s own way, which makes our music more complex and interesting.

What artists do you listen to these days?

Marino:

Lately i have been listening a lot of A DAY TO REMEMBER , and a Croatian rap group DJEčACI.

Antoni:

Oh I’m into ALL SHALL PERISH these days. Other than that i listen to bands like THE AGONIST, THREAT SIGNAL, TRIVIUM, UNEARTH, SOILWORK and some good ol’ IN FLAMES from time to time.

As a magazine, we cover many different styles and genres, but I would lie if I said that hardcore is one of the least important [laughs]. Have you ever been to a hardcore / punk show?

Marino:

Of course, I’m a huge punk rock fan. I’ve been going to hardcore/punk shows since I was 13 years old. I also liked to mosh a lot, but nowadays when I’m at concerts I like to chillout in the back and watch the bands perform.

Antoni:

I used to go to hardcore/punk shows but then I took an arrow in the knee. [laughs]No seriously, I was on alot of hardcore/punkrock shows when I was younger, I even broke my arm on one of them. I like to support local shows no matter what genre they are.

What are you future plans as a band?

Marino:

We have a lot of plans for the future. Our EP is out, so we’ll try to promote it as much as possible by playing gigs. Also we want to make a good performance on Metalfest, launch some merch, and hopefully do a tour.

Antoni:

Yeah it’s our dream to tour all over the world, make tons of money, drive fast cars, so people help us, make are dream come true. [laughs]

Which direction will you go when it comes to changes in your sound?

Antoni:

Ugh, we’re not sure. Probably on our own direction.

Marino:

We don’t know. I think it’s stupid to plan such thing. We’ll just keep playing and see where it takes us.

Thank you. Is there anything you would like to share with us? Feel free to shout out.

Marino:

Shoutout to Beli Retardus!

Antoni:

We would like to thank all of our fans, friends and families for the great support that we have, and especially you Karol for the interview. It’s been a lot of fun, hope we can make another one in the near future.
Also don’t forget to check us out on our official sites, support Uninvited and keep it real! Cheers from Varazdin!
