With We Are the Dead, Fake Figures are confident that they have truly crafted their signature sound:

“I think we captured something here with these songs that we missed the mark on with our past releases,” says sing Rus Martin. “We Are the Dead sounds like what we set out in 2010 to make Fake Figures sound like. Our debut “Hail the Sycophants” was like us saying, ‘Hey, we have some really cool ideas about how we want to do something different with heavier music.’ Meanwhile, our sophomore EP, “They Must Be Destroyed,” was like, ‘We want to get really experimental now and try more intricate ideas and see how it sticks with what we’re used to doing.'”

“With WATD, the release is like, ‘Hey, we got this now,'” Martin furthers. “There’s a certain sense of confidence you gain growing as a band when writing stuff and you just learn to trust each other with their special qualities, and we all depend on each other to come to the table with. I think this release tells a story about a band that finally found themselves sonically, but still trying to find themselves in life when it comes to the relationship with the world music provides.”

Fake Figures hails from Southern California and features members of notable bands such as Atreyu, Hotwire and Scars of Tomorrow. The band formed In 2011 with the common interest of making music that blends elements of metal, alternative and punk while keeping an undertone of music from the late 90’s. In December of 2011 the band released their first EP Hail The Sycophants which received critical praise and garnered key press from sources including MTV Buzzworthy, Revolver, Alternative Press, Punknews and more.

In 2013 the band entered the studio with Saosin guitarist and producer Beau Burchell to carefully craft their new EP “They Must Be Destroyed”. This marks the band’s studio debut of drummer Steve Ludwig (Nations Afire) and writing contribution from guitarist Heather Baker. “TMBD” is a slight departure from the experimental sound the first EP; writing punk/hardcore/alternative tracks that took nearly 6 months for the band to pen, record and mix.

For 2019 the band has signed to War Against Records (Pressure Cracks etc) and worked on new music with producer Kris Comeaux (Assuming We Survive). “Hole In the Sky” was released earlier this year and has been covered by media including Loudwire, AltPress, Spotify (Rock This), BBC1 Radio, 92.9 KJEE, Big Takeover, Rebel Noise and many others. The band’s latest single “You’re Distant” will be included on their newly announced EP ‘We are the Dead’, which is set for a 11/15 release on vinyl/digital, and features guest vocals from Jonah Matranga (FAR, Onelinedrawing).

Lyrics:

Trash is a blanket now sleep
Your eyes are vacant deplete
Give me a reason I don’t believe in anything that weeps or nothing that’s incomplete
So, aren’t you feeling the defeat
Aren’t you feeling incomplete
Fade, fade…

You’re distant and fading like a ghost (fading like a ghost)
You’re distant
Fading like smoke in the atmosphere
It’s clear when you fade, fade

The streets are a system so weak
Nothing is living just bleak
Everything falls apart once you give into the dark that calls you to attack
So, aren’t you feeling the defeat
Aren’t you feeling incomplete
Fade, fade

You’re distant and fading like a ghost (fading like a ghost)
You’re distant
Fading like smoke in the atmosphere
It’s clear when you fade, fade

You’re fading I can’t see you
You’re fading no one cares

Bring on those blinding lenses
and all your dying senses
They’re fading..

You’re distant and fading like a ghost (fading like a ghost)
You’re distant
Fading like smoke in the atmosphere
It’s clear when you fade, fade

Death is a rhythm of a life
Get used to the feeling deprived
Nothing is absolute only the questions that seem absolutely resolute
