French post punk act VARSOVIE premieres new video for “Perspective Nevski”

1 min read

The newest music video for “Perspective Nevski” from VARSOVIE‘s forthcoming fifth album, “Pression à froid” (English: under a cold pressure), has been made available online. Set to be released in October 2023 by Icy Cold Records, the album was crafted at Drudenhaus studio in Brittany earlier in January 2023. Greek artist Sotiris Lamprou lent his talents to the album’s visuals.

“Perspective Nevski” explores the complexities of a sadomasochistic relationship, influenced by the chilling conclusion of Nicolai Gogol’s eponymous short story. The song delves into the deceptive nature of Nevsky Prospekt, a central street in St. Petersburg, especially under the cover of nightfall when, as Gogol’s story suggests, all is painted in false light by the devil himself. Strikingly, the song resonates in an uncanny way with the current geopolitical landscape.

Listeners eager for a deeper understanding of the lyrics can find both the original French version and an English translation in the YouTube video’s description section.
