Cologne based instrumental post rockers SHIPWRECKS have released only one 3-tracker so far, but the inventive quartet have already taken many critics by surprise. The band is on the verge of the release of their debut full length “Shipwrecks“, and we’re incredibly pelased to present their newest track and video called “Monument”, an affecting, magnificent piece of post-rock in the vein of CASPIAN and PG.LOST. “Monument” is the sound of SHIPWRECKS surpassing themselves, combining their obvious inspirations with some noteworthy sonic nuances and beautifully rendered visual that will take your breath away. Listen and watch below to see for yourself.
The band commented:
A sailor’s wife finding her way to the sea to embrace her long awaited husband at his ship. But alas, he never arrives back home.
“Shipwrecks” comes out on Nov 10th via Sportklub Rotter Damm and Maniyax Records. The record will be available digitally and on gatefold vinyl, as well as custom tape edition.

Finally ( after the highly praised debut EP from 2015)the first full-length album by post-rock band SHIPWRECKSreveals itself, and not only as a very strong affair of the heart. This is the first time I’ve ever been to the world of music, but I’m not the only one who has a lot of fun the band retired from the busy city to the isolation of an old farmhouse in Schleswig-Holstein for one and a half weeks to finish writing. The songs have been recorded by one of the band’s guitar players. Through the use of some of the finest vintage equipment, he attempted to capture the special sound of the band as monumentally as possible-from massive spatial drums confronting a mighty bass, to sublime guitars, atmospheric additions including timpani, exotic percussion instruments and field recordings, he worked right down to the last detail.
The cover artwork is taken from a 1.3 x 0.6 meter mixed media assemblage created by the drummer, that is, a visual artist. Created from wood, pieces of rusty metal, fossils, child’s toys, lava rock, a sea urchin (!) And countless other bizarre findings from around the world, the artwork holds a charming lost-and-found feeling Which sits perfectly with the melancholic post-rock soundscapes of the songs. The band entrusted the mastering of the record to Cult of Luna’s Magnus Lindberg, who gave the album its finishing touches; further scene fameDaniel Juline (EF / Halo of Pendor) on the accordion.
The final result proves the effort what well worth it. While the epic aesthetics sound familiar, the band neither pander to the legends of the scene, nor slips into much maligned quiet / loud post-rock formulas. The organic production differs pleasingly from the sterility of many records out of these days and the spectacular cover work underlines the uniqueness of the sound. It’s been a while ago. As soon as you get to the site, you’ll be able to see what’s going on in the future. “
