The intense energy that Habak brings to its music stems from a drive to envision a future free from the daily grind imposed by capitalism. On their third LP and sixth official release, “Mil Orquídeas En Medio Del Desierto” (A Thousand Orchids in the Middle of the Desert), the band’s crust melódico unfolds with greater strength and intricacy than ever before.
Building on the groundwork of their 2015 debut Insania and 2020’s Ningún Muro Consiguió Jamás Contener La Primavera, this record develops a sound influenced equally by the d‑beat pioneers Discharge and the atmospheric post‑hardcore of Envy.
This sonic direction, emerging from the global underground and the anti‑capitalist spirit of DIY culture, is entirely the product of the band’s own efforts. Habak drummer Patrick Alexander handled production, mixing, and mastering at Cacho Studio in Tijuana during the fall of 2024.
Habak now operates with a refined level of dynamic control. Every upbeat section is deliberately introduced, and rapid passages do not appear without proper context, avoiding any careless drum fills.
This careful approach is notable for a band merging two genres not typically celebrated for such precision. The interplay between guitarists Juan and Eduardo remains striking—comparable to early 2000’s Spanish emocrust—while the songwriting deepens the appeal of their melodies in a way few peers have managed.
Backed by bassist Alejandro and vocalist Alex, the band works with a clarity that reflects over a decade of relentless refinement of their bleak craft.
