Interviews

HEARTLESS BREAKERS discuss their debut full length album (streaming in full!)

2 mins read

Interviewed for IDIOTEQ in April 2014, Salt Lake City rockers from HEARTLESS BREAKERS were beyond a doubt one of the most catchy acts of 2014. I’m very glad they’re back with their highly anticipated debut record “The Great Give Back“, scheduled for a March 10th release on Animal Style Records, streaming in its entirety below (courtesy of PureVolume)! With their music wickedly uplifting and a flood of good feeling vibes, HEARTLESS BREAKERS have a powerful, immediately striking style that’s well on the way to being excellent. Fans of FURTHER SEEMS FOREVER and TAKING BACK SUNDAY will be stunned!

HEARTLESS BREAKERS‘ new album “The Great Give Back” is streaming below. Scroll down to read my quick interview with the band’s guitarist Matt Mascarenas (ex-DAYTRADER).

Hey Matt! What’s up, man? How have you guys been since we last talked?

Hey Karol! We’ve been great! We toured during the summer and recorded a full length. Life is great.

Yeah man, “The Great Give Back” is scheduled for a release on March 10th via Animal Style Records! Nice! How did your cooperation with the label get started?

I met Matt Medina a few years ago through mutual friends. I sent him Prescriptions shortly after we released it and we stayed in contact. He always showed interest and support in what we were doing and that’s what made us want to work with him. He’s been a huge help and a great addition to the team.

How long did it take to put this record together? When and how did your writing process change from creating compositions for an EP to making an album?

We had been writing new material right after we released Prescriptions, but really started to focus on it in Feb of 2014. The process didn’t change much at all. The one big difference between records is having the extra year and a half of experience writing and playing together as HEARTLESS BREAKERS. We had a clearer idea of what we wanted to accomplished and knew how to achieve it.

Tell us more about the addition of your new guitarist Sean Jurewicz. Who is he and what does he bring to the band?

We met Sean at the beginning of 2014. He had heard of our band and reached out because he had recently moved to Salt Lake City and realized we are from here as well. He came to a show of ours on January 1 and we ended up meeting there and kept hanging out. We would drink beers and talk about past experiences in old bands when he brought up interest in wanting to be a part of heartless breakers. At the time, there was really no open spot for him, so he just kept coming and hanging out at shows and eventually would come hang out at practices and the studio. In August 2014, Bryan moved from guitar to Drums full-time and Sean took his spot on guitar. He’s one hell of a guitar player, was already familiar with how our band works, and showed up to the first practice knowing everything already. Since then, writing music and building this band with him has been better than we could’ve imagined.

Ok Matt, so how about touring? What shows and tours are you arranging for this year?

Our plan is to play these songs everywhere we can. We will be announcing the first tour in the coming weeks.

Ok Matt, thanks a lot for a quick update. Can’t wait to hear the whole album. Cheers man!
