Katowice-based band Undergone have dropped their debut single Falling Apart, a self-produced track that pulls listeners into the claustrophobic, slow descent of a vivid nightmare.
It’s the first public move from this young DIY act blending noise rock, shoegaze, ambient, and alternative metal into an emotionally sharp and musically layered whole.
The song originated from a personal text written three years ago by vocalist Wiktoria Borecka, during a period marked by derealization and confusion between waking life and recurring dreams. She described Falling Apart as a direct retelling of one such dream. “It was so vivid I couldn’t separate it from reality after waking up,” she wrote. The nightmare followed a familiar girl from across her apartment block — someone Wiktoria knew was struggling with mental and family issues. In the dream, the girl, in a moment of despair, jumped from her balcony. Wiktoria, in shock, ran to the scene, only to be met by a silent crowd staring at the aftermath. The song is a narrative of that experience, told chronologically.
Musically, Undergone wanted the composition to parallel the story arc. The intro sets an ambient, foggy tone, gradually giving way to heavier textures. The first verse lays out the emotional tension, foreshadowing the girl’s fate. As the nightmare deepens, the track explodes into a guitar-driven noise section symbolizing the suicide, followed by a second verse that captures the aftermath — chaos, disorientation, and emotional collapse. “We wanted the instrumental itself to tell the story,” the band stated.
The most intense and structurally critical moments fall at 2:07, 2:52, and 3:21, where the track shifts sharply, mirroring psychological rupture. The cover art, designed by Wiktoria, includes a scan of the original journal entry and imagery referencing the song’s themes — chaotic and disjointed, like the narrative itself.
Undergone consists of Wiktoria Borecka on vocals, Kamil Orszulik and Dawid Bestry on guitars, Alicja Więcław on bass, and Mikołaj Żarski on drums (also responsible for the mix and master). Their live debut is scheduled for May 16 at Komin Club in Sosnowiec.
