NYC’s ugliest black metal outfit, MUTILATION RITES, are now offering up a taste of their upcoming vinyl EP, ‘Devoid’ (due out via Forcefield Records). Decibel Magazine’s online incarnation is streaming side B of this vicious release, featuring the tracks “White Death” and “Negative Space.”

The band are currently on tour, wreaking havoc across the continental USA and gearing up for a string of SXSW actions (including a bevy of high-profile showcases for Pitchfork, Brooklyn Vegan, Prosthetic, and Scion) and bringing new bassist, Ryan Jones (Today Is The Day, Wetnurse) along for the ride. After the SXSW dust settles, catch them at a handful of Dirty South dates (with fellow NYC heavyweights HULL) on their way back home.

The “Devoid” 12″ EP was recorded in the wet hot summer of 2011 with Kevin Bernsten (Magrudergrind, Pulling Teeth, Triac) at Developing Nations Recording in Baltimore, MD. The EP was mastered in the fall of 2011 by Josh Bonati, and runs at 45 RPM.

MUTILATION RITES spit in the face of so-called “hipster black metal,” hailing from the grimy streets of Brooklyn, NY and doing their damnedest to pay tribute to the dark, fucked-up soul of the city. Darkthrone, Discharge, and Dissection make their voices heard within the band’s core sound, but the hardworking collective inject plenty of their own evil, filth, and chaos into their raw recordings. MUTILATION RITES have built up a name for themselves thanks to a killer sound, insane work ethic, backbreaking tour schedule, and a series of high-quality releases (including a recent split 7″ with BATILLUS). Don’t sleep on this band,
