Unifying current and ex-members of Black Mountain, Saviours and Night Horse,OBLITERATIONS recorded Poison Everything with producer Chris Owens (Lords, Coliseum, Young Widows) at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606, had it mixed by Kurt Ballou (Converge, High On Fire, Black Breath) at God City Studio, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Tragedy, Integrity, Sleep) at Audiosiege, with nearly a half-hour of grating, hardcore punk charged by a seemingly bottomless wealth of antagonistic energy; prime fodder for fans of The Stooges, MC5, Laughing Hyenas, Black Flag and Poison Idea. Poison Everything ravaged the press, with praise issued from Vice Magazine’s music channel, Noisey, offering, “As soon as that infamous d-beat kicks in, you’re transported back to classics like Never Again and Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing. Then the vocals start up and you’re assault with a vicious modern take on the classic ‘80s sound. Perfect for old spike belt-wearing punks who haven’t bought any new records since the last time Aus-Rotten put out an album. Or for the hardcore kids who like to pay homage to the greats.” Pitchfork issues in part, “on their debut album Poison Everything, they’ve managed the commendable feat of refurbishing (or rather, defurbishing) the mud-caked frameworks of Crass and Nausea,” and AllMusic claims, “there’s something viscerally exciting about the album, which blends equal parts teeth-grinding speed with unfiltered aggression, resulting in an intoxicating blend of old-school, circle pit-inducing punk fury.
