Hailing from Szczecin, Second Sun is a djent-infused progressive metlacore band members that have participated in various projects from the local music scene, with influences including renowned groups like Periphery, Gojira, Monuments, and ERRA. Since forming in 2019, Second Sun has regularly performed across Poland for the past year and a half. “No pressure” serves as the band’s underlying philosophy, differentiating them from other metal bands in Poland that take themselves too seriously.
“Our music compositions require thoughtful consideration, but when it comes to our image, we strive to be ourselves and maintain a sense of amusement. Our Instagram is a testament to our silly concert announcements.” – says the band.
Their newest song “Cataclysm” follows the release of three singles from their debut album two years ago. A harmonious blend of progressive metal and metalcore, the song explores the emotions of helplessness caused by a world ravaged by hatred, greed, and apathy.
It serves as the leading single from the upcoming EP that the band has been working on for the past several months, which will be released in the summer. Kuba Sawicki, a member of IAMONE from Łódź, will oversee the mix, as he shares a vocalist with Second Sun (Jakub joined the band at the start of this year).
Numerous people have queried if the first riff of “Cataclysm” was inspired by Animals As Leaders. While the band acknowledges their admiration for them, their primary inspiration came from bands like Monuments, Humanity’s Last Breath, and Car Bomb (Filip, the band’s guitarist, was infatuated with them).
The video for “Cataclysm” was shot in the band’s hometown of Szczecin, with assistance from their close friends Mikolaj Tomczak, Sara Szymkiewicz, and Kuba Żelechowski, while Kamil Becker, the band’s bassist, operated the camera.
