It has now been a little over two weeks since we welcomed Vienna based tasteful 80s and 90s influenced post hardcore act SMALL HOURS and their new music video, and now it’s time to showcase their full record “Reconstruction”, featuring just 6 songs with running time of almost 26 minutes, pulling from various points of punk and post hardcore early days, and coming equally varied in its style. While it is very much a throwback-sounding offering, it has a foot in the present, and make a claim to become one of the most interesting best new post hardcore records this year. IDIOTEQ is pleased to premiere “Reconstruction” in its entirety below and share a first hand commentary about each and every track (scroll down to check it out).
The band commented:
This release marks an important milestone in the band members way of recording. Not only by restructuring the whole process of writing and creating the most songs together. Also the recording happened in a live setting by just the band itself in their basement. Working on this record in familiar surroundings made it intuitive and easier to focus on the music itself.

Track-by-track commentary:
RELEVANT LIES – What’s the price to pay for the life on social media? Attention and love defined by clicks and likes? With the consequence to live under surveillance through day and night? Somehow we just get apathetic and predictable for companies and government.
MODERN DISEASE – Remember the time our ideals correspond, when we were proclaiming a good cause. But at one point something went down the drain. Where are all those positive ideas and the sense of social responsibility we had?
KONSEQUENZ – This song is written in German language. It’s about getting lost in societies ache for fame, acceptance and money. Welcome to the daily chase for advantages at the expense of others.
BLOODSHOT EYES – There’s a big problem how we deal with mental issues in society. As a little kid, we get thaught that it’s seen as weakness. But the truth is, it’s the exact opposite. It takes a lot of strength to come clean with thoughts and feelings. Sometimes it’s important to take care about yourself aswell.
CHIMERIC DNA – We can’t be proud of where we were born and of all the privileges we have by being raised in a safe space. It’s not a choice and doesn’t make anyone better than others. We’re just as good as our behaviour and how we care about one another.
POSITIV vs. NICHT – Life is full of habits. Some of them are good, some of them are bad and the worst of them are threatening others. Religion, beliefs, traditional gender roles… there is no place for racism, sexism, homophobia, sexual harassment, violence or any other forms of discrimination!
