SCOWL share new grungy rock single “Psychic Dance Routine” – listen and watch most recent live shows here

Hardcore punk rockers SCOWL have revealed their newest single called “Psychic Dance Routine”, the title track for their forthcoming EP, Psychic Dance Routine, available on April 7th via Flatspot Records.

Scowl’s new EP was produced and mixed by Will Yip, who has worked with bands such as L.S. Dunes, Title Fight, and Turnover. The EP shows that Scowl is still exploring new possibilities for their sound and artistic expression.

The lead song on the Psychic Dance Routine album is a slow-building, gritty indie-rock track that doesn’t incorporate any aggressive screams or fast-paced sections. Despite being different, it still manages to retain the signature Scowl vibe. You can watch the captivating music video while listening to it above.

Kat Moss, the frontwoman, explained that writing this song allowed her to shift her perspective on how she presents herself as a performer, particularly as a female artist in a world that often undervalues them. She played with different perspectives in the lyrics to convey her message effectively, with the line “She’ll never be your animal, she’s got her own personal hell” emphasizing that nobody can pigeonhole her into their narrow view of who she is. By using the pronoun “she,” she also highlights the feminine experience. The line “Can’t handle your control, think of the love I’d give” expresses her desire for the listener to release their hold on her and allow her to be her true, vulnerable self.

SCOWL stirred up some controversy and garnered attention due to their transition from a predominantly aggressive hardcore punk sound to more melodious and rock-oriented tunes. This shift in musical style has been met with varying reactions, causing some to question the band’s artistic direction and creative choices.

SCOWL got Kat Moss on vocals, Malachi Greene and Mikey Bifolco shredding on guitar, Bailey Lupo slappin’ that bass, and Cole Gilbert crushing it on the drums. These guys are making waves in the rock scene with their intense and real hardcore-punk sound, and now this refreshing new take on straight up garage and grunge infused indie rockin’. Their first album, “How Flowers Grow,” was a huge hit and got them on the road non-stop. They’re definitely one of the hardest-working and most vibrant acts out there right now, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled
