Feedback-soaked and Stravinsky-spiked, the metallic post-hardcore, post metal, blackgaze hybrid Seeress has dropped their new single “Fear.” A darkly melodic foray into the post-hardcore realm, the single is a poignant meditation on grief and a powerful critique of the dynamics of fear that govern our lives. The track is now available for streaming.
“Gestating for the last 3 years and finally tearing its way outta its momma’s belly to lay waste to this world,” as the band puts it, “Fear” is the first release from their upcoming album ‘Empathy.’ The band urges fans and newcomers alike to “please give it a listen,” describing the track as demanding immediate relistens.
Member Gemile goes into depth about the composition of “Fear,” stating, “Musically, this song was composed to begin in a very primal place, driven by the instinctual id that takes over when one is punched in the mouth, when one is shocked from normal reality by deep fear.”
The musical journey of the song transitions from a shifting lens of unsettling focus to razor-sharp clarity by the time the last riff hits. It even includes guitar sections designed to emulate the aggressiveness and darkness of an orchestra.
What do we fear? Gemile poses this question as he explores the song’s theme: “Fear is the sword and shackles. It’s something you have to identify and understand to make sound life-governing decisions or lose all autonomy to those who wish to take it.”
Seeress has been an evolving entity since 2014. With their 2017 release ‘Great Void’ and 2019’s ‘The Dream Passes,’ they’ve refined their musicality to encapsulate extremes of human emotion. Known for their visceral live experiences, they’ve recently added vocals to their arsenal, incorporating melody & harmony into their explosive dynamics.
In a world run by “power-starved greed demons,” as the band describes, their upcoming album ‘Empathy‘ is more than just a collection of songs; it’s a revelation and a statement.
Recorded by Jim Wirt at Superior Sound and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music, the album aims to remind us that “Empathy is the only way through this shitstorm wasteland.”
