Experimental, funky, punk infused, art rock artist Luke Kelly (the man behind the orchestral punk project we interviewed 2,5 years ago) has returned with an adventurous new record called ‘Scumlords’, an avant-garde, aggressive mix of spy music, surf rock, blues, prog rock, big band, punk, and funk. Thankfully, no amount of this weirdness can suppress Luke’s sense of melody, and that what makes it truly engaging. A proper reminder that you don’t need discordant, grindy metal to twist your insides. I believe I haven’t felt it since I first discovered PRIMUS. Not to be missed.
Barney from NAPALM DEATH joined SICK OF IT ALL on stage during their performance of My Life in Japan!
New Roma hardcore pack CHOKE WIRE (featuring former members of PAYBACK, STRENGTH APPROACH, THE FOURTH SIN, and THE DIFFERENCE) have dropped their debut record called “Recognize Your Demons”! Formed in the summer of 2016, the band took a full year playing a few shows around the country and writing their first studio work “RECOGNIZE YOUR DEMONS”. Looking at today’s world with critical and cynical eyes, the result is this 8-songs of straight-up hardcore punk without compromise. While physical copies will be available on limited edition vinyl in early 2018 through Soulcraft Music, the record is available starting today for streaming and digital download through the player below.

Legendary punk rock label Fat Wreck Chords has signed a new band called THE LAST GANG. The band will make their label debut with the two-song 7-inch, Sing for your Supper, in early December.
The Last Gang has long been a favorite of ours at the FAT office, so we are thrilled to announce that we get to put out their next record! On December 8, Orange County’s The Last Gang, will make their Fat Wreck Chords debut with the two-song 7-inch, Sing for your Supper. The 7-inch features a brand new song culled from their upcoming full-length — details to be announced soon — but the B-side is exclusive to this release, and available for pre-order now! Since we are terrible at keeping things to ourselves, we wanted to share the title track, “Sing for your Supper,” which is just a taste of what’s coming down the pike. We promise that you’ll immediately fall in love with their infectious energy and huge hooks. Be sure to give them a follow , and stay tuned, as we’ll have more news soon!
The entire discography of the influential emotive post hardcore punk band SMALL BROWN BIKE has been posted online via Sophie’s Floorboard blog.
Small Brown Bike are a four-piece post-hardcore/punk band from Marshall, Michigan that formed in 1996 and broke up in 2004. After a few reunion shows in 2007, they’ve been back permanently since 2009. They’ve put out three incredible full-lengths during their initial run, and one in 2011 post-reunion. This band’s sound is somewhat hard to pin down on the post-hardcore spectrum, since they have find the exact line dividing melody and aggression. The dual vocals bounce between a gruff bark and background harmonies. Their interlocking guitar work can switch between heavy riffs and cathartic major chord strumming, with an incredibly tight rhythm section backing them up through all these shifts. Small Brown Bike possess an incredibly duality that very few bands in this corner of music can truly master (Hot Water Music and Jawbreaker are a couple of the other rare few that come to mind). Besides that, there’s not much else to say about these things. They’re an incredibly talented band with four fantastic full-lengths to indulge in, and a ton of deeper cuts for continued exploration.

LA-based punks EMMER EFFER are diehard baseball fans, so to celebrate the start of the Dodgers return to the World Series stage after 29 years, the band has released a video for a song titled, “Clayton Kershaw Jedi Master.” The band’s debut full-length, From The Bottom Down, is out now on Felony Records.
Guitarist Kevin Wells says,
“I wrote this song from the perspective of a baseball fan who is a child because, in many ways, I still feel like that little kid watching baseball when I watch games. I also made this one of our few songs without a variation of the word, “fuck,” because I don’t think Kershaw would like that if he were to hear the song. Go Dodgers!!!”

People Used To Live Here is the haunting new full-length from New Zealand-based atmospheric instrumental act SPOOK THE HORSES. In advance of its November 10th release via Pelagic Records, today Decibel is hosting the official US premiere of “Crude Shrines” noting of the latest hymn, “rumbling bass is met by sad guitar melodies and restrained percussion paired with a mysterious video. The atmosphere is ultimately similar to that of SPOOK THE HORSES’ previous releases, despite its quieter nature.”Fans of Bohren & Der Club Of Gore, Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, Mogwai (Come On Die Young), and Amenra (acoustic), pay heed.
Imagine if band members could rotate between instrument positions, because each musician had a proficient grasp on each instrument involved? It would supply a degree of freedom and mutual musical understanding, something that most bands could only dream of. SPOOK THE HORSES, from Wellington, New Zealand, are such a band.
Perhaps it’s this multi instrumentalism and virtuosity that explains the vast musical territory that is explored among the band’s three albums: while 2011’s debut album Brighter was defined by sweet post-rock crescendos, 2015’s Rainmaker was a much heavier affair that would appeal to fans of Cult Of Luna or Amenra. The band’s forthcoming People Used To Live Here, in quiet stark contrast to the aforementioned, sees the band turn the distortion knobs way down, to a mildly saturated crunch tone, at most.
Philly’s indie rockers THE WAR ON DRUGS are continuing the support for their latest LP A Deeper Understanding. The band has unveiled a new music video for their song “Nothing to Find”, directed by Ben Fee, and young IT actress Sophia Lillis.
PUSSY RIOT visited Trump Tower in New York to protest the detention of Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov. Members of the band presented a protest banner saying “Free Sentsov”.
“We came to occupy Trump Tower to call attention to political prisoners. We believe that political prisoners and their protection are more important than the sexist bullshit that people have been focused on.”
Decibel Magazine is exclusively streaming “Abandoned,” the new single from Long Island-based hardcore ac, HANGMAN, advancing the release of their A Vile Decree debut EP through Flatspot Records. GO HERE to listen.
Running with the mew track, the magazine has posted commentary from the band on connecting with Brian Zoid – vocalist of legendary Long Island hardcore brutes Neglect, who supplies guest vocals to the track – as well as from Zoid himself. Decibel issues in part, “Long Island hardcore bruisers HANGMAN are one of the many exciting, newer hardcore bands to be watching right now. With their latest EP, A Vile Decree, HANGMAN have made it clear that they can deliver on the same level as their labelmates Mizery and Backtrack.”
Five furious tunes are delivered on A Vile Decree, with upbeat circle-pit energy interjected with slamming grooves and vicious breakdowns. HANGMAN captured the tracks in late spring 2017, the EP recorded and mixed at Silver Bullet Studio in Connecticut with Greg Thomas (Misery Signals, Shai Hulud, Recycled Earth) and mastered by Bill Henderson at Azimuth Mastering.

The nihilistic Denver-based doom-bringers in PRIMITIVE MAN will kick off a co-headlining North American tour with Bell Witch this week. The tour commences October 25th in Denver, Colorado and ends November 17th in Fort Worth, Texas. A full list of confirmed dates is available below.
PRIMITIVE MAN will be touring in support of their Caustic full-length released via Relapse Records earlier this month. Captured at Flatline Audio by Dave Otero (Cobalt, Cephalic Carnage, Cattle Decapitation et al), Caustic is twelve songs and over seventy-five minutes of bloodcurdling howls, abysmal tones, and dense, unsettling feedback, spewing forth a cesspool of utter misery. With lyrical themes ranging from political corruption, personal struggle, and the crumbling social climate facing the world today, Caustic serves as a cataclysmic soundtrack for a world gone awry.
