SLAM DUNK – “Fucking Around” video

2 mins read

SLAM DUNK has just released the goofy new music video for “Fucking Around”! The single is released as a part of Vancouver label File Under: Music’s new bi-weekly video single series One Song At A Time. Slam Dunk have returned with their first new music since 2012’s Welcome to Miami, and “Fucking Around” was worth the wait, a shredding hyperactive blast of indie punk and rattled rock ‘n’ roll excess.

The time since their last release has been a busy one for the Slam Dunk crew. After their 2014 performance at the Squamish Valley Music Festival where they technically shared the bill with Arcade Fire, they possibly went on a world tour with “The Firemen” as chronicled in the “documentary” Playing With Fire (watch below). They also managed to come to the attention of Built to Spill and have since played on multiple North American tours with them between 2014-2016. Additionally Slam Dunk’s lead singer Jordan Coop directed the first two videos for Built to Spill’s latest album Untethered Moon. In fact both “Living Zoo” and “Never Be the Same” star the members of Slam Dunk!

More about the series:

The series began on October 4th with Skye Wallace’s “Not Ready For This To Start” followed by Johnny Foreigner’s “Flooding,” Pill Friends’ “Holy Like You,” Wallgrin’s “Ae’aea,” and Slime Girls’ “Meteor Showers”. One Song At A Time will continue through March 21st, with FU:M releasing a new music video on their YouTube channel every two weeks. The series will feature music videos for unreleased tracks for artists from Canada, the UK and the US, including Crywank and much more. All of the songs are available worldwide digitally, and will be collected at the end of the 12 video cycle into a compilation.

More about the band:

In the summer of 2009, a group of five Victoria, BC based friends set out to form a band that would incorporate everything they adored in a classic pop hook, but also invoke something more brash and chaotic. Slam Dunk’s beginnings as a casual, house party side project for friends quickly exceeded its intent, snowballing into a steam-powered locomotive of epic grandeur, buzzsaw guitar solos and relentlessly hyperactive drumming.

The group – Jordan Minkoff (vocals/guitar), Duncan MacConnell (vocals/guitar/piano), Caitlin Gallupe (vocals/bass), Luke Postl (Drums) – built a name for themselves with their charismatic and spastic live performances. After a wave of tours for their 2011 release The Shivers, Slam Dunk found themselves showcasing at festivals such SXSW, NXNE and Pop Montreal, as well as onto the top of the Canadian college radio charts. In 2012 the group released it’s second LP, Welcome To Miami to great acclaim in both Canada and the US and charted in the top 10 of the CMJ music charts. Produced by Colin Stewart (Black Mountain/AC Newman/Sleepy Sun) the eclectic rock-n-roll stomp of their sophomore release is backed by manic, saxophone freak-out psychedelia, backwoods howling and the occasional splash of minimalism.

In 2014 the groups busy touring schedule helped catch the attention of legendary 90s indie-rock band Built To Spill, who subsequently brought the band on multiple tours between 2014-2016. During this time the group also released their feature-length mockmumentary Playing With Fire. You should watch it. Slam Dunk is currently gearing up to release their third album in early in 2017.
