Fourth.Media has announced the production of Snapcase: Legacy, the first authorized feature-length documentary dedicated to the four-decade history of Buffalo’s seminal hardcore band, Snapcase.
The documentary, based on Optic: A Visual Archive, the 2022 book by Tom Bejgrowicz and members of the band, seeks to document Snapcase’s influence on hardcore and post-hardcore.
The project is spearheaded by filmmakers Nathaniel Shannon and William Saunders, who previously collaborated on the acclaimed Deadguy: Killing Music.
SNAPCASE rose to prominence in the 1990s and early 2000s with defining releases such as Lookinglasself (1993) and Progression Through Unlearning (1997). These works established the band as critical figures in the evolution of hardcore music. The documentary examines their ascent, their role in setting standards for the genre, their sonic innovations, and their enduring impact on contemporary hardcore.
The film promises a comprehensive exploration of SNAPCASE’s legacy, featuring exclusive interviews with key figures from the hardcore scene, previously unreleased archival footage, live performances, and insights into the band’s cultural significance.

Filming commenced in July 2023, capturing performances and interviews during SNAPCASE’s show at Crossroads in Garwood, New Jersey. The production aims for picture lock by October 2025, with plans for film festival submissions and online distribution following shortly thereafter.
A Kickstarter campaign has been launched to engage fans and the wider hardcore community in funding the project. Contributors will receive perks such as behind-the-scenes updates, exclusive merchandise, and early access to screenings. Those with access to rare or unseen footage are encouraged to submit it via an official form to support the project’s archival efforts.
