Sorry State Records is a label, a record shop and an online store in Raleigh, North Carolina. It started in 2005 as a label, with Direct Control’s second EP, “Nuclear Tomorrow”, and has put out close to 100 releases since, many by North Carolina bands and others by bands in Sweden and Japan. The shop opened in downtown Raleigh in October 2013.
From its home state it released “Fred” in January 2025, an album the North Carolina hardcore band Subculture had cut live in one four-hour sitting in 1986 and then left unreleased for almost four decades. It sells other labels’ punk records too, and US buyers could pre-order “Our Day Will Come”, a 2020 tape Quality Control HQ put out for the Los Angeles hardcore band Zulu, from Sorry State.
