TAKING BACK SUNDAY: a joyous return and a new chapter – listen to “The One”

2 mins read

Beloved emo rock band Taking Back Sunday has made a triumphant comeback with their latest track, “The One,” their first release in over four years. The multi-platinum selling rockersโ€”John Nolan, Adam Lazzara, Shaun Cooper, and Mark O’Connellโ€”deliver an inspiring declaration of love, hope, and acceptance in this soaring anthem. It serves as a poignant reminder to seize the moment and chase your dreams while you still have the chance.

The One” is a great example of Taking Back Sunday’s ability to craft captivating and empowering music. The track, produced by Tushar Apte and mixed by Neal Avron, showcases the band’s evolution while retaining the explosive riffs, captivating vocals, and epic choruses that have resonated with their fans over the years.

The accompanying video, directed by DJay Brawner, invites us on a mysterious journey as the band prepares for their next gig and embraces new horizons.

Reflecting on the track’s significance, the band explains that Shaun Cooper, the bassist, wrote the initial riff the day he lost his grandmother during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Struggling with overwhelming sadness, he found solace in creating music and initially titled the riff “Posivibes,” searching for light in the darkness. The band was unaware of this backstory until after the song was complete, emphasizing the uplifting nature that emerged from a place of grief.

“The One” marks Taking Back Sunday’s first release on Fantasy Records, a milestone that solidifies their partnership with the Los Angeles-based indie label. The band’s signing earlier this year has set the stage for an exciting new chapter in their career. With their signature blend of mature songcraft, pop sensibilities, and heartfelt lyrics, Taking Back Sunday has created a loyal fanbase over the past two decades.

Anticipation for their return is at an all-time high, as Taking Back Sunday prepares to hit the road for their “Rad Summer” tour. This includes headlining the 16-date Sad Summer Fest 2023 in July, followed by numerous additional dates in August and September. Fans can expect an electrifying live experience, filled with the band’s infectious energy and the nostalgic power of their catalog.

Catch Taking Back Sunday on their tour, and be prepared to immerse yourself in the emotive energy that has made them a beloved rock powerhouse for over two decades.
