In 2010, My friend Chris Castillo (vocalist/guitarist) and lead guitarist Steven Martinez aka Sven (known from IDIOTEQ-featured THE AMBIENT LIGHT) came together to form a band called NOETIC along with drummer Carlos Sanchez and Bassist Omar Loera. Over the course of the next year they would play many shows througout the LA area opening for bands like SILVER SNAKES (who have just completed a tour with COHEED & CAMBRIA and GLASSJAW). in April 2011, they released an EP recorded with producer Allen Casillas. NOETIC disbanded shortly after that. However, the members would go on to pursue other successful projects, releasing music that would continue to resonate with the DIY music scene. There’s certainly enough passion in this lone record to show where melodic post hardcore and great rock songwriting can meet in a traditional compromise. It might have become a signal the start of something really huge, but it only remained as a lone pearl. Listen to the full record below and scroll down to learn more about what followed the band’s break-up.
It took a year to complete this EP and You can tell from Chris Castillo’s revealing lyrical content that it was a very difficult year for all of us. It was also the year that Carlos’ mother passed away and my grandmother passed away. When I listen back now I am surprised that collectively we managed to turn crazy events in life into a beautful pallet of sounds, I’m still very proud of this ep.
In 2012 Castillo and Loera formed STANLEY AND THE SEARCH. The band released a full length album that was well perceived in the pop punk community and embarked on a couple of full US tours. THE AMBIENT LIGHT released Debut EP “Nostalgia Trip“. In 2014, Guitarist of NOFX, EL Hefe discovered Castillo online and would eventually offer him a record deal with Hefe’s own label Cyber Tracks. Castillo then formed a new band called THIS LEGEND with ex members of YELLOWCARD. In 2015, THE AMBIENT LIGHT released their full length album “I Want to Exist”.
