Vægtløs’s ‘Aftryk’: a dark post metal odyssey through grief and resilience

November 15, 2023
1 min read

In the ever-evolving landscape of underground post-metal music, the Danish band Vægtløs stands as a beacon of raw emotional power and sonic depth. Their latest offering, “Aftryk,” slated for release on February 2, 2024, is a poignant exploration of life’s most harrowing experiences: the loss of loved ones and the debilitating battle against diseases like cancer. With the release of the first track from the album, Vægtløs invites listeners into a world where grief and beauty coalesce into a transformative auditory experience.

The track, a profound introduction to “Aftryk,” immediately sets the tone for the album. It’s a deep dive into the heart of despair and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of insurmountable odds.

The band, comprising Frederik Højlund on guitars, Jeppe Nørgaard on bass, Tobias Aske Heltborg on drums, and Troels H. Sørensen on vocals, has crafted a sound that transcends traditional genre boundaries. Their music seamlessly blends the intensity of post-metal with elements of black metal, post-rock, post-hardcore, and emo, resulting in a unique and gripping style.

Vægtløs’s approach to their craft is as honest and unfiltered as their subject matter. They draw inspiration as much from life’s raw experiences as from art and music, leading to compositions that resonate with authenticity and emotional depth.

“Aftryk” is expected to be a journey through the multifaceted stages of grief – acknowledging the pain, embracing the memories, and finding a path to healing.

The band’s commitment to conveying their message is further exemplified in the collaboration with spoken word artists Thomas Burø & Tanja Gade Hammerholt, adding another layer of intensity to the album. Mixed and mastered by Jacob Bredahl and engineered by Rasmus Glassau Clausen & Vægtløs, the album promises a production quality that matches the depth of its content.

The artwork by Jon Gotlev and layout by Jeppe Nørgaard complement the thematic elements of the album, adding visual layers to the band’s narrative.

As “Aftryk” prepares for its global release, supported by 46 record labels worldwide, Vægtløs stands poised to leave a significant imprint on the post-metal scene. Their latest track is not only a testament to their musical prowess but also to their ability to channel profound personal experiences into a universal story of loss and hope. For fans and new listeners alike, “Aftryk” promises to be a journey of cathartic release and a celebration of the enduring human spirit.
