Video Interview: INDUSTRIAL PUKE diuscuss their new album, expounding with clear forms based on their foundation of crust, death metal and hardcore

2 mins read

The inaugural album of Swedish band Industrial Puke, entitled “Born Into the Twisting Rope,” is the fruit of a shared passion for Disrupt and Dismember between Linus Jägerskog (Burst) and Jens Ekelin (Rentokiller), bolstered by the musical contributions of Mattias Rasmusson (Obstruktion/Gust/Blessings), Marko Partanen, and Erik Harald (Rentokiller). The confluence of their crust, death metal, and hardcore influences creates a formidable foundation for their music.

In June 2022, the band dropped their debut single, “Mental Taxation,” which garnered the attention of Suicide Records and led to the release of their debut EP, “Where Life Crisis Starts,” in September of the same year.

Their debut performance in December 2022 was a sold-out success, and their first full-length album, “Born Into the Twisting Rope,” is scheduled for release on May 12th, 2023. Industrial Puke’s future looks bright as they embark on an exciting year ahead.

In our newest interview above, Linus and Jens from Industrial Puke discuss the formation of their band, drawing from past experiences to guide the process.

They delve into how to balance the enjoyment of the creative process while still prioritizing the creation of well-crafted, precise songs for their album “Born Into the Twisting Rope.”

The interview highlights the band’s clarity of vision regarding what they aimed to achieve and what they aimed to avoid, though they admit to some uncertainty on how to execute their plan.

In 2017, Jens Ekelin of Rentokiller sought to create a new band with others who shared a passion for Disrupt, after experiencing previous musical difficulties. Linus Jägerskog of Burst and Marko Partanen of Rentokiller both eagerly joined the venture, leading to the formation of Industrial Puke.

Mattias Rasmusson of Obstruktion/Blessings/Gust and Erik Harald of Rentokiller joined later to complete the group, and recording commenced after a long period of songwriting and recruitment.

After self-releasing their debut single and video “Mental Taxation” in June 2022, Suicide Records based in Gothenburg expressed interest in collaborating with Industrial Puke. The partnership resulted in the release of the debut EP “Where Life Crisis Starts” in September 2022.

The album “Born Into the Twisting Rope” showcases Industrial Puke’s collective influences from Gothenburg’s local music scene, Swedish hardcore and death metal, as well as the frenzied energy of Disrupt, Kontrovers, Drop Dead, and Napalm Death. The band aimed to create short, direct songs, leaving little room for contemplation or relaxation.

Each song on the album, from the galloping opener “Mental Taxation” to the furious closer “Innards on the Outside,” possesses its own combative identity. “Reactionary Warfare” boasts d-beat mosh, “Neurosexist Motherfucker” features high-velocity crust with vocals by Hanna Stjernlöf of Socialstyrelsen, “General Gluttony” showcases heavy HM-2 groove, and “Hell Is In Hello” is relentless death metal.

The lyrics delve into self-doubt, conservatism, feeling out of place in crowds, and being out of touch with the world.

The music video for the album single “Reactionary Warfare” contains footage from Industrial Puke’s debut show in Gothenburg, which Metal Injection’s Greg Kennelty described as “an explosion of energy on full tilt without a single moment of reprieve.”
